I think all solid players have a chance. It's just where.

^^^^ I wish I can have this chance...

Pepperdine because Malibu is like heaven ...

TCU next because the coach is cool ...

so if you can put the TCU coach in Malibu it would be the most wonderful place to play college tennis ...

Hi Top Dawg; Between these where would you go if you were a recruited player and why. Tell me what you know.

Tulsa
OK
Mississippi State
TCU
Pepperdine
Auburn

Although I'm not being asked, I can say having been to OK, Tulsa and Miss. St. that OK and Tulsa have facilities about as good as it gets. Stadium and Grandstand 12 court outdoor facility and both have 6 indoor tennis courts with grandstand seating above overlooking all courts. Miss. St. has a nice outdoor facility not sure what they have for indoors, I've heard 2 cts. Weather in Starkville is mild for the most part. Auburn I hear has great facilities. School wise I don't see how any kid could go wrong at any of the above. There's alot more to go through like rural vs. city setting, cost, academic specialties, etc. Really depend what a kid wants out of school and tennis.

I've been to Miss State, Tulsa, Auburn, and Pepperdine.

  • Tulsa - very nice indoor/outdoor facility - one of the Top 2 or 3. Campus isn't huge but it's laid out nicely. I think enrollment is under 5000 if I'm not mistaken. It gets real windy out there in Tulsa so playing outdoors can be a challenge at times. They've only made it to the final 16 a few times so a tradition of good teams just not great ones.
  • OK - program on the rise since John Roddick got there. Nice indoor and outdoor facility. Never been to Norman so don't know much about the area.
  • Mississippi State - nice outdoor facility; indoor facility has just the 2 courts. They've got 4 freshmen on the team this year so playing time would be tough for a few years. They've gotten much more competitive in these last few years after being down for a while. Very rural setting.
  • TCU - big city in Dallas/Ft Worth. I think their outdoor facility has 20 or more courts. Just joined the Big 12 though near the bottom of the pack. Playing time would be easier to come by though they won't be winning the conference anytime soon.
  • Pepperdine - you can't beat the scenery out there. Big city living, great education, beach at the bottom of the hill. Nice outdoor facility. Whole team is either a junior or senior so spots will be open. Good tradition of winning conference titles and usually in the mix for a National Title every 5 years or so.
  • Auburn - nice indoor and outdoor facility. Right off the interstate about 90 minutes from Atlanta. Decent sized school with about 20000 students but it doesn't feel too big. Weather stays good just about year round. Not going to compete for a National Title or Conference Title anytime soon but usually good for the occasional appearance in the Final 16.

If it was me, and all things were equal I'd be in Malibu at Pepperdine. If not there then Auburn, Oklahoma, Tulsa, TCU, and Miss State in that order. But that's just me.

Perfect..Thanks, very informative and quite helpful. I noticed you didn't factor the strength of their respective conferences, or does it really matter much??

All 6 play pretty tough schedules so it evens out. The Big 12 only has 6 members playing tennis so 80% of OU/TCU's schedule is out of conference and they both do a good job scheduling up and playing good competition. Since the SEC has 13 playing tennis they don't play as much out of conference but the competition in the conference is the toughest of all the major conferences. Pepperdine and Tulsa both play tough out of conference schedules too.

Now if we were also talking about Radford, Binghamton, UMKC or schools like that then I would look at scheduling more.

USC on the way to a shutout of Cal. Trojans won all 6 1st sets with 6-3 being the closest score.
UCLA/Stanford a little closer with UCLA taking 5 1st sets with most of them 6-4. Romanowicz took the 1st set from Puget at 3.

Bruno Semenzato in the doubles lineup for Duke at 3 dubs; he and Saba down 6-1. Redlicki/Tahir up 6-1 at 2 with 1 tied at 3. If Duke loses the doubles point it could get interesting.

Looks like GT isnt even bothering with this live scoring nonense. I wouldn't either with that team who barely beat Lipscomb.

It finally started working in singles - Tech somehow took dubs and then Georgia won 5 of 6 singles. Pieters was the lone loser dropping a straight setter to Juan Spir at 2. Both of those 2 have been struggling - Pieters still struggling.

Spir finally finds a way to win after a freefall for a while. I feel bad for Anish Sharma. He was not supposed to be an ACC caliber player, Clemson actually considered him for a walk-on position. He is way out of his league at 6 in a major conference.

Too bad Tennessee didn't have Chaplin for singles; he could have been the difference. Putting Patrick in at 6 all but guaranteed a loss plus it meant Jones and Collins had to play above their comfort zone.

Oklahoma with a really impressive result tonight against Tulsa. 4 lopsided singles wins at 2, 4, 5, & 6.

Stanford may have lost 7-0 to UCLA but held its own on every court with Kandath being the exception.

True but if Duke had mengel then those match ups at 4 and 5 would've been the same

I'll be at Notre dame vs Michigan state soon. Gonna catch singles. Looks like Pfister isn't playing, that kills the Spartans chance to win.

those glasses have some seriously thick SEC tinting

both teams were missing a solid player, one team for singles as well as doubles, and that team basically beat the tar out of the other team

Illinois about to take out another Top 10 team (Kentucky) at home - Kopinski leads Gomez 5-3 in the 3rd in the deciding match. Hiltzik took out Jomby in straights.

Illini wins 4-3 with Kopinski taking it 6-3 in the 3rd. Illinois is a tough team to figure out - loses to Tennessee and UNC, beats Duke, loses to Tennessee, beats Kentucky.

Cunha and Mengel both not playing for Duke. Hemmeler stepped it up and won 6-1 6-3 over Stefan at 3. Michigan got 1st sets at 1, 5, and 6. Duke 2, 3, and 4.

man, pretty proud of the team right now, wasn't expecting an easy 4-1 win with that lineup out there

hopefully that clinch will help Redlicki's confidence / transition to the college game

UPSET ALERT 2: Wake Forest closing in on Tennessee. Vols lead 3-1 but WF up 5-2 in the 3rd on 5, WF up 3-2 in the 3rd on 4, and WF up 7-6 5-5 on 6.

McCarthy and Callahan both won the second sets. Looks like they are both going to have to win the third for OSU to win.

Honestly, though, none of the positions feel like huge upsets. At first glance, OSU was better at 1 and 2. TAMU was better at 4. The other three were coin flips, and those tend to go to the home team. OSU probably wishes they could have dubs back, but this match says more about TAMU's young players than it does about OSU being down.

Looks like it'll probably come down McCarthy/Adams at 3. Got to figure Kobelt will find a way to pull it out at 2 and Callahan is up a break in the 3rd.

I have a feeling Duke's Bruno Semenzato will get that illusive 1st collegiate victory in the next hour or so. He's playing #3 singles against North Carolina Central. He and Hemmeler played at #1 doubles but the point was clinched so they got a DNF.

A&M shows their talent as Vinsant and Withrow made Diaz and Smith look silly. Very nice win for the Aggies. They are probably the best team in the SEC this year at this point.

I think FSU will take down Florida. I guess Christian Gonzalez-Mendez has been squeezed out of the top 6.

To bad my Noles couldn't take those gators down. Tons of people showed up, free admission, free pizza, and all my friends always makes a good time. I was:( mostly proud of Blake Davis coming up with a win even though we had already lost the match.
