The NCAA D-II Nationals are being held in Surprise, AZ. I will be posting some pictures of the event in this thread. The tourney started yesterday. The semifinals are now set; quite the international group left.

Armstrong Atlantic (not a single US player on the roster) vs. West Florida (not a single US player on the roster)

Concordia (NY) (the theme continues - no US players) vs. Barry (2 US players, but they're not traveling)

Some really good tennis today. Barry beat Concordia relatively routinely 5-0. Concordia played pretty well, but wasn't strong enough to push Barry too much.

In the other semi-final, Armstrong Atlantic was tested big time by West Florida. AA won at #1 and #3 doubles and West Fla won fairly handily at #2 doubles. In singles play, West Florida won in straight sets at #5. Shortly after, Armstrong took #6 in straights. Armstrong took the first set on courts 1 through 3 and West Fla won the first at #4.

On #2, the nation's #1 player Georgi Rumenov won in straight sets on a very controversial umpire overrule on match point. After the match, the player and the coach were literally screaming at the umpire and the player came pretty close to touching the ump with his fingers about 2" from the umpire's nose.

#'s 1, 3 and 4 all split sets. Eventually, Armstrong won deep in the 3rd at #3 (both players were cramping) to win the overall match 5-2. The overall match started at 9:15 and didn't get over until about 1:45 p.m.

Some great captures in these. Well Done.

BTW, What gear did you use? I'm a Canon man myself (7D). But hats off to Nikonians as well.

The NCAA D-II Men's Final was really enjoyable. #1 Barry vs #2 Armstrong Atlantic. Barry jumped to an early 1-0 lead winning #3 doubles 8-1. Armstrong was up in both #1 and #2 doubles but Barry was able to break back. Both matches were decided in tiebreakers, with Barry taking #1 7-2 and #2 9-7.

In singles action, Armstrong won #3 before the first sets were over in some of the matches. They also won the first set on courts 1, 2, 5 and 6. Armstrong ended up winning on #4 but Armstrong won #1, 2 and 6 to tie it up at 4-all.

It all came down to #5 singles where the Armstrong guy appeared to choke a bit. He won the first, was up 4-1 in the 2nd and lost it, and was up 4-1 in the 3rd but ended up losing the set and match 4-6.

Very exciting stuff.
