Ok... at this point, Wilson US Open balls have the majority lead at 22.83%. They tower over the next closest "listed" competitor at almost 2:1. However, "Other" has 20.65%. Granted, that probably comprises many other brands/models, however, there have been few comments (other than "Slazenger") about what those balls may be in particular.

If the forum had allowed, I would have listed more choices when I created the poll. Basically, I just went to TW's site and listed the available balls in order.

i have paid for about 5 cans of balls in the last 5yrs so price isnt a big concern, playability is. hence why i picked volkl. does this make sense to you now

Ummmm, the part about buying just 5 new cans of balls in 5 years doesn't make sense.

Actually numbers can (and often do) lie. Statistics (aka "numbers") are notoriously malleable.

Gotta ask... does PENN manufacture more balls than other companies? If so, that could explain "60% market share".

I've been playing tennis a long time and PENNS are not my favorite. But... to each his own. :)

so true. stats are used all the time to make arguments. the same stat can be used in 2 different ways

Market share deals with sales figures. So yes PENN manufactures more balls than anyone else because they sell more than anyone else--more than the others combined.

I'm gonna agree with Zapvor, Dunlop Championship balls suck, I won't ever buy them again, less than one hour of play they're flat, and I normally open 2 cans of balls every time, so I opened them up against a my buddy's regular Penn (which already suck) and they didn't last even closer to the Penns, these regular Penns don't last more than 1:30, while the Pro Penn Marathon, sometimes last 2-2:30 hours.

No more Dunlop balls for me.

Yes, but is PENN counting all the balls that get purchased for geriatric walkers and "Chuckit!" dog ball throwers :p??? No one said PENN is the most "played" ball in tennis ;). Just sayin'... gotta take the stats with a grain of salt. :)

Prince balls are fast and bounce high....

best balls are those that keep the hair + pressure the best. To me that is Dunlop and Slazenger...

Are you ranked or sponsored so get free balls? I'm curious why you get cases free every year. Let us know. ;)

i wish i was sponsored. i dont wish to go into the reasons. you can figure it out eventually if you stalk the boards like some people do here

Got a question, anyone used tretorn micro x balls used indoors,

bought some but i do not know if they are real, the case looks real, along with printing on ball, but while playing the ball, they feel popped while striking it, they do bounce but they do not feel hard? like people have stated.
Really feel weird

Forget the micro x and try some of the new Tretorns, a little softer.

That's the thing the micro x I have are very soft, I've always read that thr hard,

My question is by my description- soft, while hitting the feel popped, but they bounce fine, DO YOU THINK THR FAKES?

i would say its tough to fake tennis balls. they are probably just been sitting around for a very long time

That is the way they go, the bounce is still fine but they feel soft.

I use Wilson US Open on hardcourts and Babolat when I play on clay. Both are fabulous.

Have just bought the Slazenger Wimbledon UltraViz, but haven't used them yet.

guys trust me on this 1...the best clay court balls are the reg duty( of course) pro penn marathon in the blue can

I played a national event recently and was shocked how these balls were new feeling the whole match.

absolutely worth the extra cost. you pay for what you get with this ball

Bumping this poll back. I'm liking the ProPenn Marathons these days.

I bought a can of these (high altitude version) last weekend and played with them. The court I played on was really dirty (those 5 minute dirty summer rainstorms being the culprit). It was tough to tell if the fuzz was gone or just matted down from the dirt, but in terms of pressure they held up better than other balls I've played with. Consider me impressed. They're not available many places here, but my local retailer had them for $1.99 a can, so I wish I had more.

I also bought some of the Babolats. Not high altitude, but I found last year that they were pretty good here still.

slazenger wimbledon ultra vis.

But since it's not in the poll I have to go with Wilson USO.

I don't get how can someone believe Penn Championship is the best, but I guess I envy you guys, that's like the only ball I can get for a little less than $2 a can in Canada.(ex tax)

Gamma Pro Tour. Just as good as Dunlop GP's if not better. Have yet to try Slazengers but will after reading this thread.

All you people who said Wilson Pro Opens are crazy. The balls don't last more than a set. And that's if you're lucky.

for me they are heavier too. you are connecting the wrong things. i dont like the balls because they are hard and heavy, not because they transmit shock to my arm. it has nothing to do with that. i just dont like the feel of the bounce

Gotta say, may beloved DunlopHDHardcourtChamp balls, the last 2 cans, only lasted a couple of sets of singles, before getting light in weight and short on fuzz. Could using SolicoTourBite have something to do with this?

ProPenn Marathons are gaining quite a bit of ground but the undisputed champion is still Wilson US Opens. No appreciable price difference between the two, so that's not a factor. Wish Slaz had been in the choices (my bad... hindsight is 20/20). I bet Slaz is the "other" for the most part.

I agree with this completely. The Gamma Pro Tours are very very similar to the Dunlop GPs, and I actually think I like them just a touch more.

Unfortunately, they are not properly priced. Gamma makes good stuff, but they don't have the reputation in balls to demand the price they do from the Pro Tours. Not when you consider what the GPs cost and how popular they are.

But yeah, the Gamma Pro Tours are definitely worth a try if you like the GPs.

i just got another case of Penn ATP after using a case of Penn Marathons the past year.

the balls are very similar, but I'm gonna have to give the edge to the ATP. its difficult to describe since theyre very similar, but the marathons definitely feel more airy and softer on the strings.

Really? lucky to get one good 1.5 hour hit with them, just got some of the limited edition US opens that are supposed to be the actual ball used at the tourney not the ones they sell the rest of the year, was told they are great
