Asics GR4 - anyone send these in recently for the warranty?

I'm planning to send mine in next week. Has anyone sent their GR4 in recently? If so, did you get the GR4 or GR5 back? I really want to get GR4 back instead of the newer GR5 because I know for sure that the GR4 fits perfectly for me and I loved the comfort.

Also, I did go down half a size to 10 on the GR4. For those of you who have worn both, did you go back up to 10.5 for the GR5?

Thanks in advance. Loved the GR4 and mainly purchased them due to the reviews from this board!

I got the GR5 a month ago from warranty return on the GR4. They don't have any more GR4 in stock according to the CS Rep I talked to. The sizing was similar length-wise, but I felt like they were a little wider, although this may be due to a thinner-feeling upper. Hope this helps!

I too got a GR5 in replacement. I requested white color and got the white+Blue. I think the length and width is same as GR4 but the fit is ever so slightly tighter. Like all my previous GR shoes I directly took them to the court without any break-in. For first hour or so the sole seemed little bit harder, but after than it started to feel just like previous GR models.

Thanks. Just out of curiosity, what color GR5 did you get? Did you make a request?

I got the White/Blue. I called to check the status, as I had a tournament coming up and wanted to know if I had to buy new ones before it or not. They had been processed that day, and they had the Lime/Black, White/Blue, and Black/Orange in stock. I requested the Lime/Black but received the White/Blue. They may have already invoiced them or something. I did send in the White/Navy colorway of the GR4, so it would make sense that I received a similar color. I'm sure if you call before they process them, so soon after they receive them (tracking), you can get whatever color you want from what they have in stock. Asics has great customer service and prides themselves on that fact. All in all, I had new shoes in about 3 weeks.

Four months ago I sent my white GR4s in and received white GR5s in return. I requested the 5s, in white, and a half size larger. Took 2 weeks (including my sending time) and was exactly as requested which was very impressive.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I have the black/green GR4 and love them. I'm going to ask for the yellow ones in 10.5 (my true size) and hope for the best. I did get the size 10 for the GR4 and they fit perfectly after I wore them for a bit.

Didn't get the yellow colorway but got the black/blue GR5. Not complaining though!

If anyone was curious how worn the GR4 was, I posted a pic in the warranty thread:

Thanks for the replies guys, the fit is great. I only tried them on today, will take them out to the court next week.

I also just sent my black/green gr4s for the outsole warranty, but requested the blue/yellow gr4s or the gel solution speeds... am I out of luck? Am I just going to get gr5s in return? (not that I won't enjoy those).

i wouldnt be too picky. its not like you paid for it.....

Yes, very true. Hence the "not that I wouldn't enjoy those". It is a warranty of course.

Will do. Hopefully I can open some doors for some others that are in the same situation I'm in, and thanks.

I sent in black/green GR4's and requested orange/black GR5's in return. Round trip to Tenniswarehouse was a week. I wanted to get the black/blue, or yellow/black, GR5's but TW didn't have them in stock for size 14. When you have gargantua feet you can't be too picky.

I just received my confirmation email today. I'm receiving the Blue/Yellow gel res 4's that I requested in the right size. I'm sure they would have sent me some speeds as they are the same price and company (of course).

To anyone that is contemplating what to request, I'd suggest just try any asics shoe that TW has in stock for your size, and the great customer service will do the rest.

Expected date of arrival is Monday by the way, which is very speedy.

I sent back the black/blue GR5 and got back white GR5s. ( my local shop traded me the white gr5s for some vapors since i want white shoes).

My wife sent back some violet gr4s and asics sent her white gr5s

Hmmm...

So many folks sending these in for replacements... Is it common for GR4s to wear out before the 6 month warranty is up?

I've had my GR4s since mid July, used them only for Tennis ~4-8Hrs/week on hard courts (wear sandals or more comfortable walking shoes to the courts and back) and I am not a toe/heel dragger. Even before 3 months are up, the outsole has worn through in the shoulder area and the outside heel... Not big enough to send in for replacement but I'm sure these will be done in another month or so...

.

Depends on a) how many hours you play and b) how hard you are on shoes and C) what surface

All things being equal, the GR5's outsole offers very similar durability to other 6-mos shoes like the Court Ballistec 4.3. The upper is not as tough, but that's the only fault I have with the shoe.

Sounds like you are getting a good amount of hours and value from these, esp with the warranty. I get almost 30 hours from these just like the CBs, if you want more durability the heavier Barricade is the best solution and should offer almost double depending on the individual stresses you place on your footwear. RushPro is another option...
