No more Donnay pro ones? Donnay going out of business?

have also been told if the racket does appear on shelves there is no guarantee it will be kevlar braided. they said it tested very well with pro level players, but not with the playing public. i personally enjoyed their pro stocks over the retail so if the kevlar braid stays, i think it would be a welcome addition

Agreed. Have mentioned this to them multiple times. The one on the right was the first one they sent me. Im glad they at least cleaned up the writing on the throat. I do hope they take xenecore off the sides though...

Ugh. Please have them remove that xenecore logo. It's hideous.

I might have to stock up on my silvers just to avoid having to deal with that new logo if that's the new PJ schemes for their entire line.

Why on earth doesn't Donnay come out with the Borg cosmetics???

I think it would be so freaking awesome .

agreed. actually suppawat i believe had some mock ups of what it would potentially look like in another thread. he had an orange one and a blue one and they looked absolutely amazing. they totally should release the next pro one lines to look like that. make the two colors the 16x19 and the 18x20. that would differentiate the 2 lines a bit, and would be really cool. maybe suppawat will re-post the pic in here if he still has them

i emailed donnay once if they might make a borg model and they never answered me. they could also do some of the agassi cosmetics if they wanted to. maybe theyre trying to break away from that since theyre not belgium donnay

I just saw that donnay has a pro one extended.....being the insane racquet tester that I am .....I immediately bought one. I have a serious racquet addiction :-(.

Anyway....lookS really cool ,,.....a powerful relatively thin framed stick.......any of you hit with it?

On another note I see donnay came out with an extended formula stick. So I doubt they are going out of business

The pro one extended is a frame im surprised hasnt been talked more about here. I should do a review of it. Think radical oversized on steroids. Its got a great swingweight for a racket on the lighter side and provides great power and spin. Much better feel and stability around the net compared to a radical. The formula lite sells the best at my club but the pro one os ext. Is a close second. If they changed the colors on the formula lite ext it would sell better as well but its hideous.

Can't wait to hit with the pro one extended !

Formula light I'm completely not interested in....the beam is just to thick for my taste.

of the lighter donnay's i think the pro one ext is the best. very under-rated frame IMO. Like I said I am surprised it has not generated more buzz on the forum it seems like a stick so many here would be interested in

It does seem to have flown under the radar here. They were really effusive about it over at the Guts & Glory blog.

The Pro One is high on my list when I'm back on the court in January. Had gone through a big demo period only to get hurt.

However, cosmetically there is too much focus on the Xenecore. One would think that is the name of the company and not Donnay.

If you are going to go with a black color scheme you should keep it lowkey.

I think so, too. And I note that "Xenecore" is the name of a company – the company that supplies the graphite for Donnay. I wonder if Donnay is working on a deal to provide marketing value to the supplier to save cash?

Seriously Kal-El 34, did they say anything about fixing the paint flaking that plagued the Donnay Pro 1 ?

Just my two cents on a few things fwiw.

1. In my experience, the issue on the P1 isn't the paint quality per se, but design, and placement of the decals. It's the silver decals that are easily chipped off, not the black paint. Because it is a minimalist design, any little dings and chips are all the more visible, there's nothing else to draw the eye. So ... you've got a very poorly placed graphic element in my opinion.

2. I've seen paint that is much tougher and less chip prone for sure, but that 3:00 and 9:00 PM location is eventually going to get scraped up no matter what. It's the spot that always gets rash from digging out low volleys. I would much prefer the design of the early release X-Dual Pro which have the Donnay lettering at 3 and 9, but only on the inside of the hoop.

3. A good fit with the lettering on the inside of the hoop would be a lightweight caps style grommet. Volkl made a single bumper that wraps all the way around on the Tour 10 MP Gen I, but it was more conventional on the outside edge. Rather than the small slit, it is entirely open for easy stringing. Something like that would be a welcome addition.

4. If there's going to be a version II, would be awesome to see it a tad lower sw and more head light. Dozens of peeps on this board have ditched this frame even though they love it, because it swings just a tad too heavy at around 327sw. I don't think that's a unique experience to TT users, I think they'd sell much better if SW was around 315-320, and 6-8 points HL

Wait...didn't you say in post #30 that the new ones swing heavier than the original ? confused....

Yea I have a few. My initial batch 18x20 was heavier. The new 16x19 ones I have are in the 31530967 range. Donnay knows I play heavier frames so they usually send me the heaviest ones they have. Ingot the 16x19 just as a thank you for selling so many sticks last month

sorry I should have clarified that

what kind of updates you looking for? right now it is in prototype phase. there is no timetable for a release now, but nothing for sure until next year anyways I have been told. The retail may or may not be kevlar/graphite braid like the prototypes (similar to their pro stock frames)

Why wouldn't they be braided?? more expensive process?

potentially. i was told it wasn't testing super well with club level players. the high level guys and pros all prefer it, but if they release a second version they want it a bit more mainstream i guess. i am not 100% clued in here just a theory.

Donnay has the worst QC when it comes to racquets matching their published specs, by far, of any mfg.
You can't even get one on spec...FROM THEM!

nevertheless they make some great sticks

I don't know. Only a small percent of all their line are even worth considering. Compare that to like a "Head, Dunlop or Prince" who have many many successful models to choose from???

I do love the Pro One & Formula 100, but not many others. I tried some of the Dual line and hated em.

I'm looking to go back to a 27.5 racquet after struggling to transition to a standard length this year. Any reviews or opinions on the 27.5 offerings by Donnay? I'd love to see a Pro One with the specs of the standard with a 27.5 length.

Sheesh Jack, just because you don't like them doesn't make them bad...

Those X-Duals are pretty demanding, even I have moved away from them 'cos I just have to play so damn well to make the most of them, but if I was a top tournament player (say, A TonLars level) I would love the things..

interesting comment on the specs, though, my F100s are 302 and 301 with identical flex and balance, and I didn't even ask TW to match them!

my Plat 99s are exactly the same...

Did Kal-El or anyone ever figure out what was going on with some of the Donnays that were way out of spec and might even have been modded?

i think everyone gets way too caught up on exact specs of rackets to be honest i've played professional tennis and am not nearly as picky as this board it really cracks me up sometimes.

ive played donnays with specs that differ quite a bit and honestly cant tell much difference... and if i can't, most club players saying a racket a couple grams over their ideal weight is unusable is funny.... it's like the guy who freaks out about racket tension between 58 and 59

if you like the feel of the racket just deal with it. most every racket company is all over the place with their specs. donnay is nice enough to at least print them on the racket accuractely

the pickiest of the club player bunch right here... compare that to how long head, dunlop, and prince have been producing rackets i hope they have a few more established lines of frames than the re-vamped donnay.

personally i liked the dual line of frames, and the x-series for that matter. we sell a ton of the thin beams at my club still. i think the pro one, formula lite, formula 100, and pro one OS Ext can rival any other brands frame in their respective categories you want to match them up against. just because you can't hit it doesn't make it a bad racket my friend...

I would rather they didn't print them and at least get them close to what they are supposed to be. Yes other mfg's are often off spec, but Donnay is in a whole other league in that category.

I never said they made a bad racquet. I said they were bad with QC. I can hit with them just fine, but I have no reason to adjust to a well over spec racquet, when there are others available that hit the mark. You want to accept their dartboard QC, be my guest.

That's exactly right, those guys are hilarious, of course it's the reasons they can't progress beyond 4.0....because their rackets don't have matched specs...

Just to be fair, don't you pretty much switch frames every three months or so ? Is that because of bad QC ?

What does that have to do with Donnay's QC?

And who's blaming their racquets for anything? You are making stuff up.
Nobody said anything about having "matching specs". Do you ever read what
you are responding to?

Um...it was a question ? I asked if you switch rackets every three months because of poor QC ? Not sure why you're lashing out....
