Lol, I remember that hot-plate incident well. This man is my hero, but he needs plastic utensils and a sippy cup to go with his night light.

Does this mean that Rafa cuts bread with his right hand since he cut his left finger?

That's obviously why it happened. He needs to use his GOAThand for slicing bread too.

Although, I'm sure this "incident" is just inconsequential fodder. I think the hot-plate actually impacted his performance on the court.

that's what the article said...both of these can be added to the time he injured himself sitting in the chair in Australia http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/tennis-busted-racquet/rafael-nadal-hurt-knee-hotel-room-032433095.html

and the time he full-bodied cramped and sunk to the ground in NYC http://www.youtube.c om/watch?v=ABY0BR8d_z0

in his GOAT career of unique, and funny, injuries

p.s. and had completely forgot the banana incident http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLVy77i7hxw

so really his third "food-related" incident

Oh no, please do not let this guy feed himself during big events...remember the hot plate incident at the Japanese steakhouse in Cinci? http://sports.yahoo.com/tennis/blog...t-plate-at-japanese-steakhouse?urn=ten,wp2579

well, now it's breakfast in London http://ftw.usatoday.com/2013/11/rafael-nadal-bread-sliced-injury/ c'mon Toni, you need to coach the young man how to eat during masters events :)

Oh dear, I hope it won't take him another 7 months to recuperate this time? ;-)

I like "food-related injury"...it may be a whole new category that will be named after him when he retires....when they give those awards out at the end of the year, or maybe even at the ESPY's...."The Rafael Nadal Annual Food-Related Injury Award goes to..."

Well, with the amount of negative energy people here send to Nadal, I'm not surprised!
Hope it doesn't hinder his play

^^F1 BOB maybe put up a c@pybara pic up without rude words  :)

I cut my finger on Tuesday..:( on a tomato, I had just sharpened the knife but it was so sharp it went through the tomato too fast and carried on into my hand..

blood was dripping .. but I later recovered to beat nadal 0-6, 7-6, (16), 6-1.

I know he's a man of the people type, but I'm thinking the Rafanator needs to hire somebody to serve him his meals.

Nadal's hands are taped up like a mummy in matches. Thick calluses. He uses that very small handle size as well. I bet his hands are all thumbs a bit due to the wear and tear he puts on them poor things.

maybe it all comes down to this....

"I have learned to enjoy suffering: Rafael Nadal"

the man obviously brings the same intensity to eating as he does to the court...one can't help but admire that

Haha funny stories. I seem to recall a banana incident during one of his matches where the banana got stuck in his throat. Nadal has a great tennis game, but needs to take more caution while eating!

Berdych to eat pre-sliced bread on the changeovers and get in Nadal's head. It's his only hope.

This would be the greatest thing. Even better if Rafa complained to the umpire about it and Berdy just gave this innocent puppy face in response.

so again, summarizing..in chronological order, the "food-related" incidents for Rafa

1. "Banana" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLVy77i7hxw

2. "Hot Plate" http://sports.yahoo.com/tennis/blog...t-plate-at-japanese-steakhouse?urn=ten,wp2579

3. "Bread" http://ftw.usatoday.com/2013/11/rafael-nadal-bread-sliced-injury/

so, am I missing any? (I don't think water bottle organization counts)

You forgot the Bee incident. Yes Nadal was stung by a Bee in Marsilles, France.

just saw this on SI's twitter feed.....

"Nadal was asked whether given his post-USO results, Novak is the favorite in London. "Yes." Then he sipped his milkshake. #finalshowdown"

troubling to read considering today's news but as mentioned earlier in the thread probably smart to keep him away from solid food and utensils until the off-season

creative license...."Nadal then coughed lightly at first, then violently, his body going into full convulsions....his team rushed toward him and asked if he was alright...Nadal said he thought something was in his milkshake...he was told it was milk and the world's number one ranked player then became calm"

He's not used to bananas. Uncle Toni had to teach him how to peel it first and then only take small bites of it at a time. He hasn't experienced any more problems with them since (or so I've heard)! :)

I think it was this assault on his good friend Rafa by a killer banana that moved Andy Murray to comment that " bananas are a pathetic fruit".

Murray actually said that? :) ...funny...and I've been telling people he's one of the funniest people on the planet
