GR4s are the only shoes I had to size down for but every foot is different though so they may fit- good luck. Good thing is if you need a half size bigger TW do free delivery both ways. Don't normally like dark shoes for tennis but those black ones do look really good, and K-leather is always nice.

Ah, finally a perfect comparison. I'm switching between GR4s & Air Max Cages now, so please do let us know how they fit.

I'm a 10.5 in GR4, but a 10 in the Cages, but both fit me perfectly.

In general i like italian tennis shoes.

They are made on a rather slim shoelast because italians have slim feet.

I have "italian" feet (looks good in dress shoes) so "Forza Italia!".:)

KR

^Exceptions are there (fila rad and diadora rebound ace), but generally, this is true.
Funny that just a few hundred kilometers north of italy is where they make birkenstocks. Maybe germans have wide feet? Probably also some ergonomic reasons, as well.

Except that all the athletic shoes in the world are made in China.Being an "Italian" company has little to do with it. And a lot of Italians have wide feet from stomping on all those grapes for so many years.

I'm going to get the new black ones soon in a 11.5. I agree that they are a bit snug so it's a good idea to go up a half size. My red speed pros are showing wear now, yet I've really enjoyed them! They are some of the best tennis shoes I've worn.

^this man remembers when borg and vilas wore diadora shoes and fila clothes. Back when tennis was tennis, man.

Well, through the 90s, jenny cap, jim courier, kalashnikov and guga represented the brand well, and so did their actual shoes.

Hope you cats like the new stuff. Keep us posted if they ever make a generous 13, a true 13.5 or a propulsish 14.

Mille grazie.

Ha Ha! I sure do. I use Fila and Diadora these days as homage to a certain player with the middle name Rune but also because they make some real good tennis clothes/shoes. I dreamed of having Diadoras when I was playing junior tennis and can now buy the new ones. Playing tennis these days in some new diadoras is one of life's simple pleasures for me SBC.

Everyone on here who is buying these seems to be getting the black ones. I think the white and blue look better and more classically reminiscent of the glory days of Diadora.....nobody wore black shoes back then. When they go on sale I will probably try a pair of the whites.

Haha, yes, BNO!

i was sort of the opposite. Loved bjorn, but never did spend the bucks on fila clothes back then as a junior. Wore whatever was around in the local shop on sale: fred perry, izod/lacoste, converse, tacchini, adidas, todd 1, court casuals, pro kennex, moody, century sports, and whatever they gave us in college. But fila was always the top of the mountain (borg, becker, goolagong).

I did manage to get some diadora borg shoes as a kid, and stuck with them (as a guga fan and a wide-footer who loved rebound aces or anything built on that last) until they changed lasts and uppers in recent years. I also wore some fila shoes with diadora clothes. And at times, diadora clothes with fila rad shoes or fila alpha shoes.

So...sort of the opposite at times. But great history with those two brands.

Hey, i just played twice today, with a pr of propulses and a pr of sfx. No kangaroo leather, but still solid and comfy.

I have been inspired by you guys to wear my Fila Vilas shirt and Fila shoes for my match tomorrow. I guess I'll have to pull out a stretch terrycloth headband too and rock the late 70's - early 80's vibe.

Do it hcb0804! Some of the new Fila stuff is pretty nice as well. You have a very good point that the white/blue diadoras look pretty nice. Tennis shoes with quite a bit of white have tended to be my favorites. It's either those or the black ones next for me.

SBC, you have some EXCELLENT taste in tennis gear over the years! Diadora and Fila do have great history. I'll need to try out some Diadora clothes too sometime, but for now I'm sticking with the more classic, yet current Fila clothes.

Do it, hcbo84o! Vamos willy!

Bno, excellent taste, well, actually all over the place....And lucky to have a few cool things.

A dark moment was when i had some Todd 1 clothes. They were known as "fake fila" because of the obviously ripped off logo style. i had three pairs of their shorts. Get this, instead of the two thin stripes favored by st and fila, these had three. So in a way they were also ripping off adidas. Todd 1. Embarrasing tennis apparel for two hundred please, alex.

hey, guys, did i hear that all dunlop ad staffers get diadora shoes? Reason enough for all ranked players and teaching pros to try the m 3.0 and m 2.0.

I'm gonna do it! Maybe I'll go with my Puma GV Special for the shoes....
I already found my terrycloth headband!

Marty mulligan, yes, bring it back!

nice post jgads, with the rebranding/relaunch of the stan smiths. Loved the music in that vid. Stan has a sense of humor. Who knew?

Lol, yes I do remember Todd 1 as the "fake Fila" brand. Too funny. I miss some of the really good quality thin cotton shorts mostly from ST, Fila, or Ellesse.

By the way, here are the new white/blue/black (TW exclusive colorway) Diadora Speed Star K V shoes. It's between these and the black ones for me now.

Yes. Germans have rather wide feet. These Birkenstocks are made in Italy.
Many chinese are working in italian factories in ITALY and getting wages just a tiny bit over chinese wages.

I wrote about made on slim shoelasts!
And those shoelasts are indeed made in Italy.:)

Italians have mostly slim feed. And this is a market. Shoes for rather slim feet.

Got my shoes today.
1st impressions:

Size 10 vs Size 10 Asics GR4 - Diadora is slightly shorter and just a tad narrower in the forefoot. I think the leather will strectch some. My next pair will be a size 10.5 in Diadora.

Comfort vs Asics GR4 - Tried back to back with new in box asics. The Diadora is every bit as cushioned as the GR4. It is at least equal if not better than the asics.

Build quality is very high. Just after a quick try on and run around the house, I may never buy the Asics again if the Diadora are at least as durable.

I loved my Diadora Mavericks, with polyurethane soles similar to the adidas Grand Prix, in full Nubuk suede, blue with light grey stripes, or green with light grey, circa 1990/1991. Post-Borg and Post-Vilas, and prior to Jen-Jen and Guga. BB wore the Diadora and Fila, oder?

Enjoyed that Stan video. What a cool guy. His Davis Cup win against Ilie Nastase in Romania has to stand as an all-time measurement of mental toughness (and daring, as in "If I win, I may not get out of here alive!") on court.

Actually, the adi Laver mesh shoes have been on Originals replay for a while, in weird colors. I wonder if a new gen of Hipster will discover the Adi Nastase (which had the same PU sole as the Lavers, IIRC). ... ?

Well, the GR4s had this issue with sizing, so I am guessing the Speed Stars are true to size. Do they feel low to the ground despite the comfort being on par with the Resolutions? They should also feel more snug/secure at the heel area, right?

I had those, too! Around 1987-1989? thanks for remembering the name. I had forgotten maverick. Wonder if that was a cloaked/ closeted reference to a certain val kilmer tom cruz vehicle?

They feel about as low to the ground as the asics. They are snug around the heal which is awesome for me.

I'll check back in later this week after I play in them for a few hours.

Don´t expect the Speed Stars to be true to size, I made that misstake... Toebox is narrow, I´m going a full size larger.

Fila and Diadora are such great brands, love & have them both. My absolute favorite tennis clothes are Ellesse, coolest brand of them all! :)

Hi AutoXer,

If you don't mind can you post some "live" photos of your shoes? Like to see how these diadoras look like in real conditions rather than studio taken pics

Knife, I agree Ellesse is great as well, but for me it's the Diadora/Fila combo.

I just got the Black Speed Stars yesterday. They do fit snug, so if you buy them, try a half size or full size more than normal. This is my second pair of Diadoras, so I can't wait to take these out for a test drive. They feel awesome already right out of the box!

You guys had the year much better pegged. Checking some photos, I wore my Mavericks in 1988. Wearing my green pair, and playing with my green Head Elite Pros back then, I was definitely well equipped for St. Patrick's Day!

Oh, that's not cool . . Was it the same with the Speed Pros?
Have you tried those?

Have not tried the Speed Pros yet, might order the yellow ones with clay soles. TW describes them "Width is slightly roomy in the forefoot" wich I find promissing. Reasonable to expect them at least not smaller in size than the Speed Stars...

I have the all-red previous model. It is roomy in the forefoot, but overall it does fit snug. This is why I wanted to compare them to the Speed Stars.

Played several sets of singles and doubles this weekend with them. 1st pair of shoes that says no break in required that I found to be true. I will continue to buy. It's the best shoe i've ever played in.

Speed star or Speed Pro?

And what's the closest comparable shoe or your previous?

Anyone try the Speed Pro yet?

I LOVE Diadora tennis shoes and I am very happy that TW is finally carrying them. They are not a good bottom for clay at all, but the comfort and feel for hardcourts are among my favorites out there. I own 13 pairs of shoes right now, and my old Diadora were one of only 2 pairs I ever wore out completely. Now have 1 pair of diadora and I reach for them first for hardcourt matches over my Yonex, Lacoste, and Wilson.
