The Vancouver Challenger is loaded with the young Aussies...JP Smith faces Baghdatis, Thanasi faces Jimmy Wang, Thompson and Saville face two Japanese players (Daniel and Nishioka) and Matt Reid gets Daniel Evans.

Good luck to all!

Geez¡¡¡ no more WASP Australians?? a bunch of greco aussies or serboaussies? shouldn´t they review their inmigration policy? didn´t they have enough with Philippoussis and Djokic? I mean, what is next, an Indo aussie or Vietno aussie on the swimming pool or the cricket turf?

Quite some ugliness shining through in this post.....:(

If you read my posts at Odss&Ends, you can see I like to offer the opinion and a way out for counter opinions...:)

Only that minds need to be open up enough with no restraint.

Honestly, I have no idea what exactly you're trying to say here. "offer the opinion and a way out for counter opinions". Counter opinions to what? Your opinion? And what is exactly your opinion here?

In your post, it sounds an awful lot like you have a problem with immigrants, and that you don't like the fact that those Australian players happen to have a non-WASP heritage (personally I think the term WASP is moronic and very, very much outdated, but okay...).
What's exactly wrong with players who happen to have Greek or other European, Asian, African heritage, but grew up in and identify with Australia, even play for Australia?

If you don't have a problem with the (number of) immigrants in Australia, then you surely should think about how you phrase comments.

It's good for the local game that the results are starting to happen. I still find most of them pretty unlikeable.

Not a great day for Aussies, Groth Ducky and Tomic all out and another Aussie (Hewitt or matosevic) guaranteed to lose as well.

JP drops serve after breaking at 4-5 and loses 5-7 in the third. Meanwhile, Reid and Thompson split sets in their matches but play was suspended due to darkness...only one court with lights???

Nice win for Thanasi as he sends Rik De Voest into retirement in a tough 3-setter. Gotta clean up the DFs (6 of them) which brought his points held on 2nd balls down below 50%. Plays Ward next.

Saw the results/draw and am still perplexed by what happened to Mad Dog???

Anyway looks like some great match ups. If Kygrios makes it through the first round, the match against Murray should be a cracker.

Thankfully we are getting it live on pay TV here in Australia but the 1am start means I'll be recording a lot of it.

It will be a great confidence boost for him if he can take the match.

Haven't seen any vision of the match but I wouldn't be surprised if Kyrgios and some of the other young Aussie players were in the crowd cheering him on. They really made a point of doing it at the AO and I think that sense of camaraderie is one of things that will help them get up in close matches.

Not a good day for the Aussies :( Rusty looked way out of sorts.

Here's hoping Nick and Bernie can fly the flag on day 2.

That was one of the worst maths Hewitt has ever played. Simply awful. Hopefully Kyrgios and Tomic can do better.

Tomic loses in three to Karlovic after being unable to escape from two tiebreaks. A bit disappointing but I'm not too fussed.
