Just picked up his first title (ATP 250) at the US men's clay court championship in Houston beating Querrey 7-6(9), 7-6(2). Good match, he was down in the first set breaker but came back to win saving set points and took the second after another close set.
He'll move up to a career high #34 tomorrow and is now the second highest ranked American male behind Isner, plus he's only 22. Jack Sock is the future. A righty Nadal if you will
I enjoyed that match.
Congrats to Jack Sock on his first ATP win!
Sock does hit the ball doesn't he! The commentators were saying how in Miami or was IW that Nadal's average rpm fourhand was 3100. Sock was up at 3200rpm.
That is average as measured by Hawk Eye. Sock's max RPM was near 5000rpm there!
The faster the racquet head speed and the harder he hits, the more the ball will go in!
He was serving a too many double faults, 1 per game avg, but stopped that in the tie break.
He's also a bit predictable going crosscourt with his forehand from the backhand corner, over and over. In the end Querry was reading it and parked there. The odd one down the line would have shaken that up...
Querry never really seems there sometimes. Also it's like he can't handle being ahead.
Still, good week for Jack after the hip surgery, the trials with his brothers illness etc. Seems these things have made him mentally stronger / mature.
I'd really like to see him just get better and better from here. As we've seen for a long while now the potential is there, needs the right headspace / approach and work on his game reading / plan.
Lets go Jack - American Tennis needs you (no pressure there then!).
