Sock It To Me, Baby!

I got to bump this thread, he plays the thieminator in Miami R3.

New members of tt must get put off when they see Gulbis and Young threads with thousands of replies but the future of men's tennis Sock and Thiem with hardly any!

Thiem's thread has over 1000 replies :p

Agreed though, this thread deserves to be bumped. Sock has been playing really well lately, both in singles and doubles, since winning the Wimbledon doubles title. I don't think he'll be able to take out Thiem, but it should be a good match.

Thanks for the thread bump and well deserved...will be going for a personal best second consecutive three-match win streak today after a long break due to injury. Thiem will be a tough task but is winnable. Getting to his first MS1000 QF this week will indeed be easier vs Mannarino/Wawrinka than his IW draw of Fed in R16.

His dubs success may be breeding more confidence in his singles game. He and Pops have a potential rematch in 2R with their IW finals victims Bolelli/Fognini. Would love a Bryan Bros/Pop&Sock finals.

Jack needs to get into better physical condition. Does anyone know if Jack has a personal trainer? If Jack took his fitness seriously I think he's the young American who could make some noise on the ATP Tour.

Sock looks like a 10 dougnut a day or french fries for all meals kind of guy

Good talent so far, strong mostly all round but BH is as good as Paire FH.

Stefanki would do wonders to this kid

You cant discount socks doubles ability as well. He has had the best results of any young american in singles and has had unbelievable success in doubles

Sock v Thiem is pretty evenly matched. I don't like the style of play on either side, though. Ball bashing from 10 feet behind the baseline. Thiem's hitting backhands off his back foot that are landing in the service box and sock isn't doing **** w/ them.

Wow, never even knew there was a Jack Sock thread. This has been a good couple of weeks for him in Indian Wells and Miami. I only saw the very beginning of him vs. Thiem, hopefully I'll watch the rest later.

Jack Sock to break the top 30 this year.

Just picked up his first title (ATP 250) at the US men's clay court championship in Houston beating Querrey 7-6(9), 7-6(2). Good match, he was down in the first set breaker but came back to win saving set points and took the second after another close set.

He'll move up to a career high #34 tomorrow and is now the second highest ranked American male behind Isner, plus he's only 22. Jack Sock is the future. A righty Nadal if you will

Maybe he just feels like a late bloomer because we've been waiting and watching for the next top-quality American player and he's stood out early because the rest was slim pickings.

I enjoyed that match.
Congrats to Jack Sock on his first ATP win!

Sock does hit the ball doesn't he! The commentators were saying how in Miami or was IW that Nadal's average rpm fourhand was 3100. Sock was up at 3200rpm.
That is average as measured by Hawk Eye. Sock's max RPM was near 5000rpm there!
The faster the racquet head speed and the harder he hits, the more the ball will go in!
He was serving a too many double faults, 1 per game avg, but stopped that in the tie break.
He's also a bit predictable going crosscourt with his forehand from the backhand corner, over and over. In the end Querry was reading it and parked there. The odd one down the line would have shaken that up...

Querry never really seems there sometimes. Also it's like he can't handle being ahead.

Still, good week for Jack after the hip surgery, the trials with his brothers illness etc. Seems these things have made him mentally stronger / mature.

I'd really like to see him just get better and better from here. As we've seen for a long while now the potential is there, needs the right headspace / approach and work on his game reading / plan.

Lets go Jack - American Tennis needs you (no pressure there then!).

Sock has a strange serving position. Rather than standing in the middle of the base line, he stands half way between the sideline and the centre line, Hr then can hit an very angular serve that is harder for his opponent to return. This serve is more pronouced in the deuce court serve than in the ad court seve.

It sure works for him. I've never noticed anyone else with a serving position like this.

Janowicz does it quite often. So did Llodra every now and then.

Sock is the next top ten I tell ya!

Sock has always had the potential to do something big. He is now maturing, he just needs to cut down on the doubles, it seems every match he serves quite a few.

BH needs some tweaking too but I'm impressed with this quick comeback from a fairly significant surgery. Let's see if he can get deep in the bigger events regularly before top 10 is suggested.

Right you are. He is building up a good momentum which none of the other younger players have right now. He has had some very good results on clay in the past like ousting GGL at Roland Garros.

It would be good for America to have another all court player in the Agassi mould. Querrey and Isner play some great clay stuff sure but that is in the big man tennis style, not in a multi-dimensional way.

With a forehand like that, no reason he shouldn't do well on clay! I think he can get to the fourth round if he plays his cards right.

Beating PCB, possibly Robredo and then Almagro? The QFs await and this run will prepare him for the upset of the year!

Great win for Sock over Dimitrov! And in straight sets! Jack is really showing that he can play on clay, even said it's his favorite surface. I had a feeling that Jock would win given the current form of both of them. Possible R3 match vs. Coric which would be great to see.

It could be an Armada streak for Sock...PCB, then Robredo, then Almagro, er ******.
