Tomic Arrested

I can see the trial now.

Prosecution: We submit that Mr Tomic stood his ground and resisted the pressure applied by hotel security and police at least three times, standing his ground and refusing to waver.

Defence: We would like to submit the following 28 minute video where my client plays Jarkko Nieminen.

Judge: Case dismissed, there is no way the person in that video could offer any form of resistance.

"A Miami police report states that he “pointed his finger aggressively towards the hotel security officers and continued to play loud music”, prompting them to call the police."

LOL. Those security officers must have been very scared by that finger pointing ;)
Tomic and his fans should be grateful he still possesses 10 fingers.

I want to know why the police felt threatened by "aggressive pointing".

Considering American police we should be thankful Tomic is white, otherwise who knows what river we'd find him floating in.

I realize the point of your post was the theatrical second sentence but assuming the news report is accurate (a big assume) there is nothing to suggest the police were threatened by him.

Apparently it was a statement made by the security guards which you may or may not take with a grain of salt but I think the hotel made a good move calling the cops rather then having security guards possibly try to eject him. However, I would agree with those that don't think the cops handled it ideally. No one hurt, no threat of violence and no property damage ? Better to let him pack his stuff up and escort him out the door (and make sure he has a place to go. You can't just put him in the street). No need to run this crap through the criminal system. It will/should get dropped. As far as actually responding to the call, yes I think much better then having hotel security deal with it.

50% are u crazy? Less than 5% of Miami has a clue a atomic exists. Less than 1% of Americans outside Miami.

The 1% is nearly as crazy.

1% within or without Miami is wildly overstating it. Tennis has almost no footprint in the U.S. Other than Roger + Rafa and maybe Roddick there would be almost zero name recognition. Tomic would not register at all outside of those very into tennis.

Caught me.

And yeah I agree that it's probably better that the police were involved (as opposed to the security guards) but I don't really see why it was made a criminal matter.

Basically my view.

I agree. In fact on further thought, I think the police should have -- wait for it -- tried to mediate with the hotel so he could stay. He could get rid of his guests and promise to keep the noise down. Police can always come back and arrest. But this presumes the dept. is willing to put a little effort into not arresting.

It just seems needless for such a trivial matter.

I don't know, maybe it was deserved, but it does seem a bit odd.

Some snippets of Tomic's horrendous and blood-curdling crime spree:
'...Witnesses said Tomic closed the door on security guards -- pointing at them as the party continued.
He was arrested and charged with trespassing and resisting an officer without violence.
He was eventually released on $2,000 bail.'

I assume they ran out of black people to shoot in Florida so he was the next best thing. How dare he trespass in the room he paid for! He is Clyde and, I assume, Rafter didn't accept the role of Bonnie hence the fallout.

This guy must be thinking he is a god. He has every right to party hard, wake up everyone at night and abuse security guards. Oh, forgot to mention he thinks he has all the rights to Tennis Australia's fund. In fact, he believes that it is his personal bank account from which he can draw whenever he wants to.

Four million bucks worth of "personal bank account", according to the newspaper last week. Nice money to party, for sure.

You do realise of course you're saying a terrible athlete has no talent for tennis, sits in the Top 30?

I mean, I'm not saying he's a terrible athlete, but would you say THIS is an elite athlete?

Talent to me is really athletic limits. Now he's developed some skill by throwing time and money at the sport but certainly not as much skill as he'd have if he was a great athlete or even just "not a trainwreck"

Stop trying to deflect the fact #Tomic broke the law and was arrested. To my knowledge, US Law Enforcement has no bias against #Australians, with the exception of most Americans who were disappointed by #OliviaNewtonJohn's #Xanadu from 1980. #Bust

Yah I was being conservatively generous lol :)

Basically, outside of the hardcore tennis community and maybe Australia (?) Tomic is a nobody.

Hes staying at a $10,000 aud a night hotel and hes complaining that tennis australia have stopped fundings? lmao
If you had read the thread you would have seen my post which addressed this. The issue wasn't funding for Bernie it was the lack of respect by TA, they wouldn't make Hewitt or Stosur pay for court hire or tennis balls. And the other issue was cutting Sara's funding despite winning a tournament.

I mean, the laws the law. Property owner told him to stop being annoying, he said no. They said leave then, he said no. Yup that'll get get u arrested for trespassing 10/10 times.

what is the sentence for tanking ?
5 hours of watching videotape of Day 1 Kazakhstan vs Australia, witnessing Wally Masur p*****g his pants off, while overdosing on Schadenfreude pills and Vodka.

BTW did you see Wally Masur during an interview before Davis Cup? Guy looked like he needed some good weeks of sleep! He also said TA and Tomic should reconcile ASAP and get on with life. He wanted Tomic in the DC team badly. Too late LOL he kicked him out already.

Yet footage of cops choking a black man to death was ok. Hmmm Now I'm not saying what tomic did was right but arrest for and I quote pointing his finger aggressively and shutting the door on the tenants face... Really?

He's a nobody for most Australians too.
He's a despised figure here, expect for a few craven apologists who perform extraordinary contortions to excuse his boorishness.
And then there's the village idiot who despises all things Australian.

Meh...I don't see the big commotion over this. A 22 year old, decent looking, millionaire, with a bit of fame...was partying with friends at a hotel. Oh noez! I understand that most people on this board hold tennis players to ridiculously high standards on and off the court, but come on! Let the guy have his fun...he's living the dream! He's ranked in the top 30 without putting that much effort, travelling the world, making fabulous money for playing a game, enjoying the perks that come with that...I say bravo...enjoy! If he ever wants to really dedicate himself and shoot for majors or number one in the world, that is his call and his alone.

Refusing to leave the hotel room was a bit of a ****** nozzle move...but he was probably drunk and acting with a bit of liquid courage/obstinance that I assume most of the posters on this board have experienced a time or two.

Party on Bernard...party on!

That's real true blue Aussies right there having fun [emoji12] [emoji12] [emoji12] compared to some Aussielegend wannabes who can't even beat nobodies at Davis Cup LOL.

The way TA is going, it makes me think you have to be a pious Pope in order to play Davis Cup, instead of having a high Tennis IQ..... Ah well.... I guess it is due to Imperialist upbringing, that's why.

Elitism makes you dumb.

Not what he got arrested for. Property owner wanted him off the property. He refused. He was arrested and removed. What other outcome could we possibly have?

The police did mediate. They mediated the removal of the trespasser from the property. What right do they have to negotiate anything further than that?

Some of you don't get it. The police got involved because the property owner kicked Tomic out of the hotel and Tomic refused to leave. So, instead of the hotel forcibly removing him, they rightly called the police to enforce their rights.

There are Inkeepers laws to protect guests. If The W violated Tomic's rights, he can pursue legal action. If they didn't, Tomic should stfu.

Actually, it makes sense that high lodging costs are prompting funding concerns, so I can see why Tomic is reaching out to TA through the media.

On a related note, he may wish to stay at Motel 6 next time, because the W hotel security were apparently out sick the day that hotel security was taught at the hotel security school... Why call the police? Why not a SWAT team? Why not just shoot the guest and call the medical examiner’s office for a cleanup?

I'll assume this was a joke. Hah hah. Most amusing.

I'm sure the ADA who had this crap dumped on him/her isn't quite as amused.

I hope you're being sarcastic. Lodging costs are only high because he picks very expensive hotels. 10 grand a night is ridiculous luxury that TA should not be expected to foot the bill for, even if he were a model citizen.

What's next? He needs 5 grand a night gambling allowance? Another 5 grand hooker allowance?

You don't have to be the Pope, but being Bernard Tomic doesn't help.

Just saw the interview of Channel 9 News with Tomic in Miami. Wow, he's living a lavish life there lol, driving audi convertible, staying in a flashy hotel, lol.

He said he is not in a fight with Rafter, and only with Tennis Australia. He won't talk with Tennis Australia and their relationship is not good and won't reconcile. He wishes Aussies good luck and all the best for DC in Darwin. He wished he could have played with his mates in Darwin.

Next stop, Colombia.
