Welcome to the 2015 edition of the China Open

Rules of the game:

1. Every day of the tournament that day's matches will be posted. You pick one player who you think is going to win. It's a knock out-system: if the player you picked wins, you're through to the next round. If he loses, you're out.

2. You make pick one player per round

3. You can pick a player only ONCE. Obviously it's important to make smart choices in order to get far. If you have no picks remaining, you're eliminated from the competition.

4. You can't pick a player from a match that has started already.

5. NEW RULE - You cannot advance to the next round via a walkover since it is hard to know exactly when someone announced they were pulling out HOWEVER this rule does not apply once you reach the semifinals

6. Since you can no longer win a match by a walkover it is highly advised that you make a back-up pick to your main pick - when listing your picks make sure you specify which is your back-up.

7. If the player you picked retires during the match, you're out. If he retires before the match, your back-up pick will be used.

8. If the opponent of the person you picked withdraws and is replaced by a lucky loser your original pick will stand unless you specifically change it.

9. NEVER edit your pick. If you want to change your pick, please quote your old pick and choose a new player. Edited posts will not be taken into consideration.

SCORE FOR TOURNAMENT
1 correct pick: 45
2 correct picks: 90
3 correct picks: 180
4 correct picks: 300
WINNER: 500

Wow! you sure you want Nadal in round 1?
He could win the first set 6-0 and lose the next two.
True- but he's playing a wild card and I've taken him early in the tournaments I've done reasonably well in.
BUT I might have a re-think :)
Cheers.

Hi not sure if I'm too late to get in, only two matches not started yet today. So if I'm still able to pick I'll go for:

Sock
Bu: Raonic

Hi. You don't have to pick a player today. We are picking by round. So there are more first round matches to choose from tomorrow.

Bloodbath. Will be the same if Vesely loses in Tokyo.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to make a correct pick!
Vesely won so it's not very bloody in Tokyo. As to Zhang/Istomin, I didn't go that way because WCs in their home country tournaments often play a lot better than their level in 1R matches. Zhang did it before; so did Pouille at Bercy'14 and Hugues Herbert at Bercy'13.

Also Istomin v Zhang was very tight last time they played.
That said, I've picked Nadal over a WC- but they have no history. This all goes wrong if......

I agree. I tend to avoid picking against hometown boys. That's why I was nervous about Vesely. But, Tsonga still managed to troll me.

There's no escaping these clowns!:D

First to pick! First to be knocked out I think :D
Did not believe when my brother said he lost the match.

Great. Mentally I'm now focused on the WTF where I will have the privilege to lose 2100 ranking points. Very excited!

I think I was 9th last year going in to the WTF so I didn't qualify for the top 8- this may be a blessing as fewer points to defend but it didn't feel like that last year!

Yeah I got to play both the regular and top 8 WTF and gained 2100 points. I can't wait to plummet out of top 10.
