    Severe Arthritis in Big Toe

Orthopedist says I will need fusion surgery and be off my feet for four months. I am 70 years old. After 15 minutes on the court, my foot hurts unbelievably. I wear a shoe with a big toe box. Any suggestions short of surgery?

    Switching hands

I'm a 69-year old, 4.5 righty. For the past two weeks years, I have practiced serving left-handed to be ready in case I need rotator cuff surgery on the right shoulder. Gotta cover all the bases. Right?

Hold tight is your grip on racket first v second serve?

Little finger is never on the grip. I f you can drop ring finger off during service motion, so much the better.

Singles & Doubles: same racquet or one for each?

i use Wilson Steam 99 for doubles & Wilson Steam 105 for singles. The former is one-half inch shorter & with a smaller head size & thus easier to volley with.

How do you guys deal with the heat?

Do what the Aussies used to do. Get some cabbage leaves, wet them down, & stick them inside your floppy white hat.

Do You Play Tournaments or in Leagues or Just for Fun?

@DaveInBradenton...Dave, you are more than a tennis player. You are an absolute genius, because you are retired, living in Florida, & never having to worry about disputed line calls.
