I actually agree with you here. International competition has improved largely due to the publicity the 1992 Dream Team gave to basketball.
it is a wishful wishdom, not true in general terms.I was a keen fan of international basketball from the late 70´s-early 80´s and, while Spain has a great team, and so does Argentina and maybe France, many traditional powerhorses ( at FIBA´s level) like Canada,Italy,Brasil,Puerto Rico,and for a while Cubo,panama,Czeckoslovakia as well as unexistent Yugoslavia and Soviet Union were far better teams.
In my opinion, the idea that international basketball is better is becasue 6-7 ( at most) overseas players are NBA stars.But NBA itself has been decreasing its competitive level.agains, except 10 or 15 players, most of the current NBA teams are below the level of the 80´s and most 90´s.
Like in tennis, Fed´s 17 slams look impressive but, then again, look at his competition...
