2010 vs 2012

Call me a fanboy but i have been missing him lately. I even miss the years he was in a slight decline like 2010-2012. At least at the time he was still somewhat a contender. Let's analize:

2010:
-won a slam, was no.1 during the year, won a masters and won the WTF.
- reached 3 extra masters finals and had great performances in them. Toronto: Berdych + Djokovic before losing to Murray and Shanghai : Soderling + Djokovic before losing to.Murray. In a way he was unlucky to not win more masters than he did.
-finished with a positive h2h record over the big 4: 7-4

2012
-won a slam, won 3 masters and was world no. 1 during the year
- reached the final of the other 2 important events WTF and Olympics
-finished with an even H2H record over the big 4: 6-6

So it is up for discussion. Which year do you think was better?

2012 was much better IMO. His form in 2010 was shakey and he was suffering from injuries at Wimbledon. The big 4 were also better than in 2010 so his 6-6 record is more impressive to me. His form in 2012 for the most part was really high and he was excellent in the last 2 rounds of Wimbledon and especially at Cinncinati.

Rafael Federer?

Well. Since it's about Federer, 2012 was surprisingly good for him but it was an year when neither Nadal or Djokovic were in their prime.
So 2010.

2010 by far was a better year for him. He won the FO, Wimbledon and USO.

2012? He didn't even play post Wimbledon.

In 2010 he reached the final of US open (lost to Nadal), and that's it pretty much

In 2012 he won the AO, final at the French, final at US, so obviously 2012 was better.

but i still gave some clues. besides federer who else won WTF in 2010 and reached the olympics final and the WTF final in 2012.

Until the indoor fall season, Federer was terrible for the most of the year after the Australian Open in 2010, whereas in 2012, Federer played at a much more consistent and higher level for most of the tournaments, so definitely 2012.

Federer's 2012 was incredible. When he was no. 1 in 2010 it was mostly because Nadal happened to be out of the game and Novak/Murray weren't at their best level.

In 2012 he beat all of them during their primes. Also his Wimbledon win is more significant than his AO win. 3 masters > 1. He still reached the finals of WTF in 2012, and he reached the finals of the Olympics so that should make up for the WTF win in 2012

i really think prime federer would have won 2 majors in 2012. the USO was up for grabs i do picture prime federer beating both murray and nole back to back.

also i see prime fed winning at least one of olympics-WTF

I think he missed a big chance at AO 2012. He was a set and a break up against Nadal and if he had won that match, he would have fancied his chances against a tired Djokovic.

story of his life against rafa

but at the uso he had an even bigger chance: murray who did not defeat him in a slam at that point and djokovic in windy conditions. if ferrer managed to double break djoker in the first with windy cond federer would have killed him

overall in 2010 i was shocked. i could not recognize him. he practically did not win a title for 3 seasons: early HC season, clay season and grass season. this never happened before 2010.

the only times i say federer was playing great after AO were Montreal, Shanghai (except the final), Basel and WTF. Montreal was the tournament which he should have won IMO but at 29 he was gassed in the final after super tough matches with Berdych and Djokovic

I think that Mardy Fish withdrawl didn't help him much against Berdych.

no excuse berdych played great and if not for the wind he would have hadhis chances against murray as well.

but prime federer would not have lost to berdych the way he did
