So, this made me realize that picking against Federer in the SDL has been very rare recently, especially as he's skipped clay the last two years. In fact, I can only find eight instances of someone picking against Federer (provided they have another pick available) in the last 12 months:

@I Am Finnish incorrectly picked Andreas Seppi to beat Roger in this year's Rotterdam semifinal.
@JadeC correctly picked Alexander Zverev to take out Roger in last year's MonToronto final.
Three players incorrectly picked Rafael Nadal to beat Roger in last year's Shanghai final.
Three players incorrectly picked Juan Martin Del Potro to knock out Roger in last year's Basel final.

Clearly our confidence in RF was a little shaken in his first couple tournaments back after the stunning USO defeat.

This is interesting actually, I've only ever done it once in my time playing the SDL (Australian Open 2016 SF vs Djokovic).
