4.5 tennis player

Hi all,
I'm a 4.5 rated player. I'm based in San Francisco but I have the next three weeks off and I would love to find a week long tennis camp/ clinic that would be most likely to have 4.0 players and up. I am looking to travel. I have been looking at South Carolina area. I'm open to a lot places if I can find some good instruction and hitting partners in the same clinic/camp.
Sea Pines Resort has weeklong "grand slam" for 4.0 and up. I was leaning toward that one.
Thank you,
Brian

I've been going to John Newcombe's Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, TX for years. It's a bit of hit and miss from the perspective of level, but I usually bring a foursome of 4.0-4.5 players with me. That being said, my buddy has been there and been the ONLY person for the whole week, essentially getting one on one instruction for 30 hrs. The pros love it as they just keep cycling in fresh juniors from the academy to hit against. Call and ask for Chris Jacques (Jox), the head pro.

Great thanks for the information. Was your friend a 4.0 and up? Do you know of any others camps? It doesn't sound like they have much to do there other than tennis.

My friend is a self proclaimed 5.0 (I think he's just a solid 4.5 [emoji12]). Total Tennis in Saugerties, NY is the camp of choice in the NorthEast. Haven't been myself, but a lot of my teammates have and say it's a good camp.
Not much else to do at Newk's, to be honest, after a day on the courts, you won't have much left in the tank to do much. The town of Gruene is nearby (very cool place) and you are 45 min from Austin, 30 min from San Antonio. There is also tubing/floating down the Guadalupe River and a huge outlet mall in San Marcos.
Newk's has a great pool and hot tub and a decent bar too.

I've gone to Cliff Drysdale Tennis program at Amelia Island FL. They have good instruction and nice accommodations. Beautiful facilities and lots of other non tennis things to do.

IMO you're better off spending the money on private lessons...

Or joining high performance clinics (i.e. Competitive drilling sessions with junior tourney players or former junior tourney players), or just hitting sessions with you local college player (d1)

It's hit or miss what you get at camps.

But from an roi perspective, hiring someone is your best bet.

Unless you're trying to roll it into a vacation, singles meetup thing, etc,...

I would actually agree with this comment. If you want to spend the money and improve your game more, take all the money you would spend at camp and get hooked up with a good local pro who can also set up some matches for you.

The camps are a great getaway, and you hit a ton of balls, but work with a pro week after week and play local matches, you will improve more!
