97 year old sinks hole-in-one for first time - golf is not a sport.

Hyogen,

There is no "proof" that golf is or is not a sport. There is merely opinion. I happen to agree with you but I understand my opinion is just that, worth something only to me. Golf is a skills game like darts, pool, bowling, etc. This doesn't detract from the skill needed to excel at these games and it doesn't make any "lesser" than something I consider a sport. My personal degree of seperation of quality between various sports and games is how much both, skill and physical prowess, are needed to excel for a given activity. So, for example, tennis is very high up on my list of greater activities because you can't exceed without high skill (shot placement and consistency) AND high athleticism (footwork and court coverage).

That guy looks great for 97.

OP, if you tell him golf is not a sport, he will kick your ass. Then you will probably say kickin' ass isn't a sport.

so if a 97 year old hits an ace against you (lets say youre standing flat footed, and you lean towards the middle and somehow the ball goes out wide touching the line....), then tennis is not a sport?

It appears tennis is NOT a sport. The all-time leader in USTA championships, Dodo Cheney, was winning tournaments in her 80s.

I think the analogies succeed. If the OP is suggesting that 97 year olds have the physical capability to play consistently fine golf because of one guy hitting a fluke hole in one, then he needs to spend some time watching old men play golf, then watch excellent golfers play, and then come and tell us there isn't a difference. I suspect Dodo Cheney hit some winners, just as this guy it a hole in one, but that doesn't place Dodo in the same league with Rafa and Roger, and Dodo's winners don't disqualify tennis as a sport any more than this hole in one diminishes golf as a sport.
