Adidas Trae Young 1 - Basketball shoe for Tennis!?

Hi all, I wonder if anyone could help or has an opinion...

I play both basketball and tennis and so have a few pairs of each type of shoe and you can usually tell where the sporting demands delineate basketball shoes from tennis shoes; the higher ankle coverage, traction patterns, density of the rubber and so on. Looking at the Trae Young 1's, I really cant help but see a barricade Ubersonic 2 esq mash up that looks great for tennis use, then ofcourse that geeza footdoctor zach did a review on them and mentioned them as a potentially better Ubersonic 4 for some people, more stability and cushioning whilst remaining lower to the ground and flexible and this has only furthered my bias. Does anyone own a pair and or have some insight into this as I'm thinking of just giving it a try as you can get a really good discount on them if you are a student here in the UK!

i think if the discount is over 40% off retail price its safe to try. I do not know what is going on with the sole in the centre is doing though. Midfoot lateral stability? I don't know.

Personally I think the squiggly lines are ugly but I am sure these are great performance wise though.

Order to check fit and return if unsatisfied.

My only question is if the laces would lock your foot in with how short it is. Especially for lateral movement.

The biggest problem is b-ball shoes are designed for a less rough surface and thus less durable than tennis shoes. Some b-ball shoes have outdoor outsoles which are closer to tennis outsoles, but I doubt many models do. I wear the N3xt L3v3l Adidas for b-ball, which are similar to the Youngs but laceless. I wouldn't use them for tennis on hard courts, cos they'd be gone in 10-12 hrs.

It looks Barricade-ish, so might work. If you can got it cheap, just try it. Maybe the only downside is the sole durability, but will have better cushioning.

Anyway, this review says that TY-1 is good for outdoor court and have solid rubber. And now i am intrigued to get one, since its hard to find big size tennis sgoes in my country.

yeah seems intriguing doesn't it! as you and others have said, if the rubber is uo to the task i could see may basketball shoes being viable alternatives to tennis specific shoes. I think I'm going to bite the bullet, ill update with you guys to et you know how they are!

Let us know how it goes. I also bought a pair because they look like barricade and people say it's wide and it's so difficult to get a truly wide tennis shoes that fit me...

lol I chickened out... I was apprehensive of the very short lacing system and after testing the new Barricades out, loving them but ripping the stupid elasticated lace eyelets out I decided to go in a different direction, purchased the Lotto Hyperpulse's and I love them, stable and the lacing system is perfect. I realise I have very aggressive movements and have come to seek out most a solid lacing system which wont break under lateral pressures or rip-out flimsy plastic eyelets (Like i have both the GR8's and the Court FF 2's). If anyone else has tried the Trae's please give us an update haha!

I have about 6 hours of tennis court time on a pair of Trae Young's at the moment. I am a toe-dragger and thus far the durability seems to be very good, definitely better than Vapor Tour's or Ubersonic 4's. Traction is good and I haven't had any issues with heel slippage thus far. The shoe is super comfortable, fairly light, and although the lacing system is minimal I haven't suffered any toe-jamming. They are fairly wide however, I might recommend going down a half-size. If you know where to look, they are on clearance for $91 a pair.

Can also report that the Trae Youngs were good for tennis. I played 2 hours today and the shoe felt stable, had good traction on the hardcourt, and seemed pretty durable (can only guess but the rubber seems pretty thick and hard). I'd recommend them if you have a wide foot. However, you have to try them on, I think the fit is pretty specific.

Is it comfortable and feel cushioned?

Not the post you are replying to but basketball (and volleyball) shoes on average will be more cushioned because of the jumping and landing.

Comfort like he said will depend on fit

I had a chance to get these for $70 and didn't. Many regrets.

Took the words out of my mouth. I'd highly recommend this shoe if you have a wide foot. I'm coming from a Gel Resolution 7 previously. Asics shoes are too narrow now.
