ALU power rough vs 4G rough

Hi everyone,

New poster here, and really enjoy these threads!

What are your thoughts on ALU Power rough vs 4g rough? I've been playing my head graphene prestige s with a hybrid of 4g rough on mains (53 lbs) & x-1 biphase on crosses (55 lbs), and really like this combo a lot.

Will I like the same set-up with ALU power rough replacing the 4g? LIkes/dislikes for both strings?

Thanks!

ALU Rough has nice power and a good stiffness, not too stiff/harsh, not too soft. I find that the rough texture gives you a little variance with how much spin you can get, thus making it a little inconsistent. I thought spin potential with the string was actually just ok, not great. Launch angle is a lot lower with the Rough than what it is with some other strings. Good ball pocketing. Overall, good string...just didn't perform consistently enough for me.

So I've had a chance to spend a few days with my 2 head graphene prestige S racquets. One w 4G rough on main and X1 biphase on cross. The 2nd one w ALU power rough on main and X1 on cross. Both at 53/55lbs tension. Both freshly strung.

Basically, I found 4G to have noticeably more power than ALU. This was balanced by the increased spin I got from 4g. So, more power and more spin - not a bad combo at all! This is supported by TW lab tests on their reviews. Comfort was a wash.

4G is not know for its spin potential nor its power. I'm surprised you got more power from 4G than APR. IMO APR is the livelier of the two. APR's spin isn't that great so I guess that's the only part of your observation I can possibly see me agreeing.

Everyone's different I suppose.

The energy return doesn't mean power. It doesn't always work out that way. You'll notice some low powered poly's with high energy returns.

As for the spin, I thought you were talking about regular 4G. I have no idea what 4G Rough is like, but perhaps it does have more spin.

Yeah, agreed on regular 4g. Not particular spin freindly for a poly, and a bit uncomfortable. I found 4g rough to have better spin, power and comfort... Just a much better all around string.

Appreciate the clarification on energy return. I thought it was a metric for power. I guess not
