Another torn acl - this really sucks!

Well, on the last point of a match during a tournament last week, my left knee buckled as I went to the net for a put-away. I was very familiar with the feeling as I had torn an acl in my right knee many years ago and just had it reconstructed two years ago. The repaired knee is doing great and the last thing I expected was the other knee to go. Surgery is scheduled this Thursday and that means six months with no tennis. The surgery is really not that big of a deal, but going six months without playing is absolute torture! So, those of you who are playing regularly, think of us who yearn to step on that court and feel and hear the sound of the ball coming off the strings and consider your good fortune!

Am really sorry to hear this BillH. This is indeed a bummer. I have had acl reconstruction in my rt knee and can relate to your pain and frustration. Sadly, there is statistical significance in the observation that if you blow the acl in one of your knees, it is likely that the acl in the other knee might go too in some years.

You'll be back. And with a vengeance. In the meantime, satiate yourself with all the tennis talk on these message boards.

Count me in for wheelchair tennis. I sustained a severe lumbar muscle strain on the weekend and am out for 4 wks. The pain is bad... I can hardly walk. Never had back probs before, so it is frustrating that I am hobbling around like a positively geriatric old man now...

Best of luck to all you in your rehab. Keep the faith and you'll be back.

I was already slightly injured when our last club tournament started. I ended up injuring myself worse (plantar fascitis, knee aches, and a serving shoulder problem) during the first few matches. As I was soaking myself in BenGay to get ready for another match, my daughter said to me "Dad, you walk like you're old, you look like you're old, and now you SMELL like you're old. . ."

I have a 13 year old girl available for adoption. . .

I feel you man, my knee problems have kept me off the court so much it pisses me off. This is my 4th week without tennis because of continued knee problems. Was off it for 3 months in the spring from knee surgery, now 4 weeks, so I guess that is 4 months total in the past 8 months.

I can relate to Midlife's problems, er, everyone's problems. I think I've had almost every sports injury except TE/GE. Anyway, I played some young stud in our club tournament last week with my right plantar faciitis acting up again. No tie-breakers allowed. :) 12-14, 4-6. One footed Methusala loses to 35 year old kid who can't serve. Oh, well, it's better now.

Not only does the 6 months off for rehab really bother me for obvious reasons, but I had been using my new DNX 9 for only about a month and was really getting into it. Its one sweet racquet and I was really getting some great groundies and serves - now I get to start all over next April! The bad thing about knee/ankle/foot problems is that you can have great shots but if you can't move around the court, it don't mean nuttin'.
