Any Basic Advice for a Beginner?

Hey guys,

I'm a bit new here so please let me know if I'm posting in the wrong section. Anyways, I've recently become really interested tennis, and it's all I want to play. So far I've just been learning on my own, but I'd like some general tips on how to move, swing etc. I'd also like to learn some drills on how to improve/practice. If you guys have any good videos that would be beneficial, please show them to me because I'd love to watch them.

I created a mini video of me playing (I'm the person closest to camera), and from what you can see is there anything that I should work on?

I'd also like to join a club/find a coach. Any recommendations for a person in the Lower mainland area in British Columbia? Thanks!

you're really good. especially for someone so young, who has never had lessons. you're doing so much right!

keep playing more and having fun. also, keep playing other sports even after you start taking tennis lessons. soccer and other sports will help you stay nimble on your feet and keep your coordination.

Three things you are doing right:
1 - Out play the other guy: Keep the ball in play, get it over the net and in the court with good depth. You seem to be able to do this anyway in the videos. this is very good. keep this habit during matches or when playing points.
2 - I like your backhand. Very natural. You are doing so much right. You don't have to run around it all the time. It's ok to run around it and hit a forehand sometimes if you feel like it. Practice both strokes, forehand and backhand.
3 - I like your follow through: You follow through and hit through the ball very well on your forehand and backhand. this is good. Keep it up.

I cannot recommend a coach as I am not in your country. Good luck.

have fun. enjoy.

Thanks for the reply!
I'm already playing ice hockey so I think that should help while taking lessons. I'm having so much fun playing, too bad the weather's been kind of down lately, but when spring comes I'll try to get out there as much as I can! I really appreciate your post, thank you for the great advice.
