Ok, I've been demoing the AS and APDC pretty extensively for the past few days, and I'd have to say that the winner by a clear mile for me is the APDC.
That's not to knock the AS...different racquets work for different people. The AS is very stable, which I really like in a racquet. It's also pretty good on flat serves and volleys. But I really felt this racquet was lacking in touch and control. Spin potential was somewhat limited too. It could work, and it's better than several other player's racquets I've tried over the years (although I still like the Yonex 001), but it would take some getting used to.
On the other hand, the APDC was just a dream to hit with. Enormous sweetspot, no twisting at all. Easy to be consistent with this racquet and I felt like I had a lot of control overall. Yeah, some flat shots go long due to the extra power. But man, hitting aggressive topspin shots is a lot of fun (and easy) with the APDC, as the racquet seems to cut through the air really quickly and leaves the ball with a ton of spin. Volleys were stable, especially defensive volleys. Kick serves were great, flat serves will take some practice.
I normally like thin beam racquets, and wasn't even considering the APDC until I saw a 5.0 guy crunching groundies with it a few weeks ago. Then I read the reviews, which were great, so I decided to give it a shot. Now I'm gonna buy it.
