I think Tsonga looks very good - he's surprising me on clay. I wasn't overly impressed with Soderling yesterday. I also think both Ferrer and Verdasco have chances, it's very open!

Have been following "The Baker" and do not think this is a very surprising result. He always had the talent and now also a positive state of mind on court. He has beaten Soderling in training this week btw... Could be a real contender for the coming tournaments!
The look in his eyes even resembles that of fellow dutchman Richard Krajicek, also very very serious...:)

OK, here are my thoughts on this interesting semifinal!

I'm going to select Soderling for the semis. And that's because (1) I do believe his experience will help him overcome this upstart de Bakker and (2) I am throwing my bet on Verdasco to beat Soderling in the upcoming clay final!

Out on a limb? Yeah...:)

All I can say is I'm super glad there's no MONEY on this bet!!! LOL....

Just curious - this means you think Verdasco is going to beat Ferrer? Why do you think that? I think Ferrer will be too solid and he's playing very well here. Verdasco has looked sloppy at times this week and although Verdasco has the H2H in his favour (5-3), Ferrer is the favourite for this one. (4/6) Just interested to see what u think :)

Yes, I am betting that Verdasco will beat Ferrer. Now part of my analysis is the head-to-head with Verdasco favored. And the other part is Verdasco's seeming ability to outlast the tiebreakers until he wins them. Of course, the advantage one could claim for Ferrer is he hasn't faced many - if any -tiebreakers in this entire tournament!

I like Ferrer, I do. Someone called him an Energizer Bunny....so true!!! Perfect description.

But I think Verdasco has an all-court game that I'm not yet convinced Ferrer has. Ferrer, it seems to me, is great from the baseline and hits a few net balls that are great, but I don't think he has much else. Verdasco has impressed me with his baseline play AND his at-net play and crosscourt stuff. He just seems to be an overall better player to me.

That said, I think anyone who chooses Ferrer to win is in a very respectable position! The guy's GOOD, seriously good. I just have this sense that Nando's destined for something even greater over time...and tomorrow.

'Could be totally wrong! We'll see. :)

I'm thinking he has a very good chance and he does'nt have a risky style of play IMO. If Verdasco or Soderling is on,he's dead meat but I just trust Ferrer more at this point. Verdasco has been playing very shaky this tournament. I was worried he was going to get upset by Gulbis. I believe Ferrer can beat Verdasco and think he has a very good shot against Soderling. I hope I'm right.

exactly! :mrgreen: ... oddly enough given the early rounds, this tournament is an improvement over the last in that regard, namely, that there will be a 100% winner

plus ... there have been upsets all week long, and the force has been with Spain these past two weeks ... Hey, it could happen! :p

and ... luckily for those of us on the West Coast who've had to wake up at 2:30 a.m., 4:30 a.m., etc., Sunday's final w/b at 4:00 p.m. Barca time, 7:00 a.m. Pacific, and 10:00 a.m. Eastern! :)
