Back foot on the serve, drag it up?

I have no problems with foot-faulting, however, I'm starting to add more leg to my serves (and I still don't foot fault). I'm actually using them more effectively now. I bent them and used them fine before, but I don't think I used them to their potential. I'm wondering if it's better or just the same to drag the back foot(my right) up to the front foot before hitting the serve as opposed to being shoulder-width apart? Or is it just a matter of preference?

The other day, I was serving in such a way, that it felt a little better to drag my right foot up. I hadn't really done that before. I'm bending my knees all serves now: my first flat serve, kick serve, and spin serves. I'm a college player, female, who plays like a guy.

Thanks in advance!

Definitely seek the counsel of a good coach or experienced player.

But for my view, no, one way isn't better than another, it is personal preference (although my story's different to you - I found that my serve improved a lot once I simplified the motion, got rid of the foot drag, and stopped pretending I was Marat Safin!) I would also emphasise that foot drag or no foot drag, that's just one componant - as I recall, as well as dropping the drag, I also did a ton of work on toss and ball placement, pronating the racquet, and on your body's final thrusting movement upwards and into the court.

Finally (and I really am no expert), I'd say go with what you're feeling tells you (as regards practicing and experimenting), BUT seek experienced coach or player to give an informed opinion asap (this is vital.)

Good luck with it.

OK, thanks for your comments. That confirmed what I thought. I just kinda surprised myself the other day dragging it up. I'm very body-aware when I play tennis. My coach is a great coach. We'll see what he says next lesson. Maybe it was just a weird thing that day or a problem with my toss or something that caused me to want to move. Thanks!

Yeah, well toes wear out quite quickly anyway. Especially if they're Nike (I wore a pair out in a month!) which is why I love my Barricades. Thanks for your response.
