Becker Special Edition Mega Bag

I lost another of the silicon zipper grabs on my Tecnifibre Tour 9-pack -- this is actually the second bag with the same problem (TF replaced the first one) -- and I am ready to move on. I might have given the VO2 Max 12-pack a try, but the beverage cooler on the Becker Special Edition is a nice touch and the bag looks good based on the photos. Any feedback on these bags? I am especially interested in whether the "rubber" zipper pulls are sturdy. Thanks.

I had the BB Special Edition Mega Bag but sold it...

The bag is made well but IMHO it's not as sturdy as my TF 12pack... it's like between the TF 12 pack (sturdy, well made) and Head Team bags (not holding shape, soft material, not durable). Not enough padding on the straps and no where near the straps of Tecnifibre bags. I don't know why but it atracted much more heat than the TF bag (both are black but the TF has red accents, maybe that's why?).

I liked the cooler for drinks but since I can buy such a thing separately and keep it in one of the compartments with clothes etc. I don't think it's a deciding factor. I liked the organization of the BB bag but it's not as nice as in Head bags. I also liked the racquet head dividers.

As for the pulls I didn't have trouble with them in both TF and BB but if I remember correctly the BB pulls were not metal. I don't think (don't remember) that BB pulls were significantly different than the TF ones. I mean the TF ones were more silicone like and the BB more rubber like but the difference in feel was that I don't think that BB pulls would be more durable than the TF pulls.

Ohhh here's the thread from which I got information before purchasing the bag:

P.S.: I'm currently interested in the VO2 12 pack but have yet to see it live and I try not to buy bags without seeing/touching them first because pictures can make a bag look better or worse. If the BB had thermo for racquets I would keep the BB but since it doesn't my main concern is the build quality and TF bags are just better in this aspect. I regret that TF didn't place the EBS on the VO2 because it's excellent, really comfortable but I like the fact that the new bag line has a quickgrab handle.

Thanks for your input Automatix and the volg link Shaun. I had one of the TF Tour silicon grabbers tear, and the other just slipped off the metal piece (the latter was a known intermittent production defect that the TF rep told me about). I also hear that the VO2 Max bags are very high quality and will probably now go with the 12 pack as a replacement. After a few days of using my back-up Babolat Team bag (no complaints about the quality of material and construction) I truly appreciate the old TF EBS system -- truly the *only* way to carry a fully loaded bag. It is so much better than anything else out there. The new one looks well padded, though. Thanks again guys.

I don't have a Becker bag but I have a couple of Volkl ones. And since Volkl makes the Becker ones I thought I would ring in on it. I actaully have 3 Volkl bags and have never had a single problem with any of them. The main one I use is a 12 pack and have used it constantly for the last 10 years. Qualty is number one with them. Or at least was the last time I purchased one.

^^^^^^

No question Volkl/Becker is good stuff, which is why it was on my short-list. I will soon be parting with $60-70 for the Becker Limited 3-pack as an airline carry-on because of that quality. I almost cannot believe I am spending that much, but it is the best quality 3-pack available.

Hey Il Mostro! If you get the VO12 pack do write about it! I have yet to meet the bag in person and am interested in buying one. Thx in advance!

OK my bag is in. Definitely roomier that the TF Tour 9-pack it replaces. The quality of the material and construction are really first rate. It is even better looking in the flesh.

The EBS system is just slightly different that the Tour bags in that it does not have the yoke that goes over the neck & shoulders, but the feel is just as good. If anything, the padding down the top of the center section is more heavily padded than the Tour, comfort was an obvious priority. It is far superior to a regular strap setup. There is a soft carrying handle, unlike the Tour bags.

The outer racquet compartments are well padded, but not a hard shell. Racquets are well protected. There is a small hanging zippered section in the center of one of the outer compartments. The small outer compartment (for personal items) is adequately sized for its use. The opening to the separate shoe/wet compartment still opens wide and deep like on the Tour -- the easy access is something I have always liked. The compartment is vented, too. The center (main) compartment is roomy. The VO2 Max does not have the hard "floor" like the Tour bags did. The bottom of the bag seems to have some padding. The zipper grabs (the only flaw I found in the Tour series) are solid metal with a rubberized finish; they are large and solid. Zippers look fine and, like the Tour bags, have the covering to keep them from being exposed when closed.

The outer part of the bag bottom side does not plastic feet like the Tour. It is, however, much more robust and made from thicker, stronger material. The large "Tecnifiber" imprinted on the bottom looks sharp.

That's about it. It is striking looking and it is clear that TF spec'd the highest grade materials to create an extremely functional bag. Better in every respect that I can think of than the Tour bags (which were sweet bags to begin with). Worth every cent IMO.

Firstly! Thx for the info ;)

Intriguing...

Good! I really loved the EBS system on the tour. I could carry the bag (Tour 12) with ease although it was stuffed full to it's max. I was a bit worried since the VO2 Max didn't have the "yoke"... but I guess I was worried for nothing.

There is a soft carrying handle, unlike the Tour bags.

I missed the handle on the Tour 12... I think it was one of the few flaws the Tour series bags had. I had to grab the bag by it's straps to carry it in one hand. Luckily the issue is fixed now.

The zipper grabs (the only flaw I found in the Tour series) are solid metal with a rubberized finish; they are large and solid.

Well their solidness will be tested Il Mostro style ;) Than we shall see how sturdy they were aye? ;)

Roger roger! Ordering one ASAP :D

what is the EBS system???

Il Mostro (why this Italian nick? I'm italian ;)), which are the difference between tf 9 and 12?
the tf 9 has only 2 compartments, 1 external for shoes and the little one on a side?
thanks

The EBS is TF's backpack style strap design (I think something along the lines of "Ergonomic Backpack System", but my memory might not be perfect on this). The straps and bag just fit much more comfortably than any other bag I've tried. The old one was more distinctive in design, but the VO2 Max wears just as comfortably.

My old TF Tour was a 9-pack and was very much on the small side -- this really sunk in when I realized my back up Babolat Team 6-pack actually carried more gear. The TF was a lovely bag though (except for the silicon zipper grabs). The VO2 Max 12-pack is huge by comparison. I mean really huge space inside -- almost too much for me, but now I stick my soft cooler in there too, so only one big bag to carry.

"Il Mostro"? This was one of my nicer nicknames from my cycling days. I was a sprinter, and very aggressive at that, sometimes my opponents and team mates called me "Il Cazzone", which can be taken either positively or negatively depending on the circumstances. I am 100% Greek blood but half of my family were Siciliano -- so culturally, we are half & half. All my life I kept hearing "una facia, una raca", so I remain "Il Mostro". I do stiil have a personalized plate on my '69 Alfa Romeo GTV that reads "Cazzone", though. You cannot believe the crazy positive reaction I get from Italians here in the USA when I drive this car. :)

I also love going to Italy (we have one business trip per year and then extend the visit for fun) and always feel so comfortable and welcome there. Two great countries with many common threads running between them.
