But what good does it do them and the country if they're both head cases? Australian tennis hasn't been the same since the days of Hopman! I remember when it got so bad, McNamee making the top 10 was an event! Hewitt didn't last long at the top with a game that couldn't sustain the winning needed to hold onto #1! The biggest surprise was a doubles' specialist, Stosur that actually beat Serena W. in the finals of the US Open! Outside of that, it's been slim pickings with Aussie stars only showing glimmers of hope to turn it all around! I long for the days of Laver, Newcombe, Roche, Emerson, Court, & Goolagong! :p ;)

Lleyton Hewitt always had the perfect attitude for winning at the highest level of professional tennis, even 16 year old Hewitt. That was true despite his "c'mons" riling opponents, and the numerous controversies that Hewitt was involved in during his career. He always had an excellent winner's attitude, and loved competing.

Bernard Tomic, I've never taken to.

Looks like an uncircumsized weiner and acts like one too.

Hopefully in a month we wont hear another word from him

I suppose a big slump was inevitable after 40+ years of a massive conveyor belt of Australian tennis talent from the early 1930s to the mid 1970s.

They at least had Cash who beat Lendl at Wimbledon in '87; the year Becker was upset early by some guy I never heard of from "down under," Peter Doohan! I think I heard he died all too soon recently for some reason! :(

"I don't care what Lleyton said, I never lost to him"

Wow, congratulations on beating Hewitt in 5 sets, in 2015.

This is definitely the most worrying thing he said. That is pure John Tomic (his Dad) who always hated and disrespected Lleyton. Bernie hasn't really let go of any of the old Tomic yet, which is what needs to happen for him to move forward. He really does need help.

Regardless of what you think of Lleyton as a player, he set a hell of an example in competitive spirit and coming back from injuries. It's sad to see a former champ and Davis Cup captain being disrespected like that with Australia's proud Davis Cup history. Lleyton handed Fed arguably his most painful loss (from two sets down) on his way to winning Australia the DC in 03.

I enjoyed watching Bernie in his earlier years but let's get real. He either wasn't willing to do the work or wasn't going to develop the foot speed and stamina required to be top 20, so I doubt he'll ever get there again or win anything of note. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.
