Best shoes for wet hard court

Have you tried the re reeased nike vapor 9.5's?

That shoe still has the nike XDR and the zig zag pattern of the sole makes me think it'll grip well when wet like my 2008 air max smash's did/do
I haven't tried it, but if it looks like it has a flexible pattern on the sole it likely will be better. Issue with running shoes is lack of lateral stability. They aren't designed for quick direction changes so it's easier to roll and ankle etc.

What about running shoes with ankle strap?

Having not tried it for sure I couldn't say, but it isn't generally the ankle support that's lacking, it's a more narrow sole that doesn't extend past the foot on the outside to stop rolling, plus usually less solid sides to keep the foot in line with the sole rather than travelling past it. I'm not saying you couldn't use them, I'm just not convinced they would be as stable

Yes i see what you mean

Can you look at the nike vapor 9.5 sole and tell me if you think that'll work well on wet hard court?

Like you said it needs to be flexible but the image looks rigid.

My old nikes with XDR i think was mainly around the outsides and the zig zag section was more flexible hence more grip

I obviously can't really say either way as I've not tried it. Sorry. It looks like it could offer a bit of a half way house so potentially worth a go. But I wouldn't like to say for certain having not tried it myself

Yeah i was hoping from the pics it would be clear I'll guess I'll order some and if the sole isnt flexible rubber I'll know it wont work well.

You would think the cheaper tennis shoes would have more flexible rubber to save costs?

Do tennis shoes generally have wider soles?

Because i have a wide foot and find all tennis shoes too narrow been a nightmare finding shoes now added in this wet hard court issue!

I think my best bet are clay versions of tennis shoes + also maybe if courts are wet the plus side is they wont wear as fast?

I imagine dry hard court + clay soles = gone in weeks

Yes, I used to have a pair I wore in wet and one in dry. But it's still worth saying this won't give dry condition grips. It's more like 10-20% better is all. That's just me experience too of course

Strangely with my air max smash's from 2008 the men's versions of serena williams shoes she won a slam with that year plays amazing in rain

The sole grips so well but as expected wore down quickly

You would think the brands would make a shoe for the uk conditions?

But potential law suit if people get injured so cant market it as a wet court shoe

But for running they have gortex and wet running shoes so cant see why they cant make one for tennis

Didadora torneo 2 apparently has superior grip according to innovashan + comes in wide which solves both my issues

Downside: they are ugly and cant try them on anywhere in the uk lol

I played on a court that was "drying" on Saturday wearing my Gel Resolution 9s. I slipped a few times during initial movement from my split step.

Yeah i slipped all over the gel 9's are not good for anything midly wet.

Btw have you tried the AJ3 x 9.5's on wet court how do they grip?

The XDR sole seems different from my air max smash's from 2008 which were more flexible hence better grip.

Are the diadora blushield torneo 2's i want with the best grip or the speed ones?

I haven't tried my Vapor AJ3's on a wet court before. I tried to hit in them indoors when my son needed a quick warmup before a match. The heel didn't feel stable with my custom orthotics, so I decided to never use them for tennis.

My experience is with the Diadora Blushield Torneo and Torneo 2 Wide. I can't vouch for any of the other Diadoras.

Ok so i should get the diadora blushield torneo 2 wide that had amazing grip and so did the original?

Is blushield different from the torneo wides or the way you wrote it seemed like they were different shoes rather than v1 v2?

There's no ankle support on these for the sides is there? + the version 2 is out does it do the same job
Aircast A60s ala Murray sorts that out:)
I'd rather remain on my feet..

Not sure about Ver 2. A friend bought some recently with a different pattern and they grip no problem. He's very happy.

I've now moved from wet hard courts in winter to wet artificial grass with sand.
Still slippery when there's too much sand and my opponents are slipping! Kswiss, Wilson, you name it.
I'm still on my Adidas Terrex Fell running shoes;), and never slipping!

The tread has worn down some, but still grippy.
It's all in the pattern and rubber mix.
Think summer car tyres where the compound is like rock below 0 degrees Vs a good winter tyre that remains soft and grippy down to minus 20°C

In general UK shoes (not sports shoes) are not fit for purpose in snow and ice!
Found that out moving to Sweden.
Buy locally, much grippier on the snow and ice.

It seems running shoes generally are made for wet pavement runs so need grip

I wonder why there are no tennis shoes with alot of grip apart from the diadora blushield torneo 2's

Apparently these are very popular globally cos they are the only modern tennis shoes that focuses on grip not sliding!

I guess you are supposed to stop play at the slightest sign of moisture, and have an army of ball kids / line judges to dry the court with towels, to get back on quickly once the rain stops, some undefined time later - copy the pros in all we do :)

Reality is very different!

They need to make a wet court specific shoe for us in the UK they'll surely sell a lot

I played on a drying hard court today and my opponent was wearing K-Swiss, it looked like he had a ton of grip and was running left to right very quick when I was able to push him wide. Not sure of exact model but looked like Bigshot Light 4. There was no way I could replicate the movement he was able to in my shoes.

I find with the asics gel resolution 9 if you put more force on each step it grips the ground better

Not for running but short side to side movements the traction is better

I find now these only dont work when it is actualy raining more than light otherwise it is fine for how i move

No running in any though and avoid moving forward at all times

Let the ball double or triple bounce but do not move forward in any condition so baseline rallying is only possible no games or points

I was wrong. I wore my Torneo 2s to WDW Animal Kingdom today. The decorative pavement was drying in the morning and my shoes were slipping around with rapid movements.

I do think this is a topic that won't actually be resolved as no tennis shoe is really made for this. But, another one to look at could be the Lotto Raptor Hyperpulse 100. They have a Vibram sole which looks to have some decent grip. I haven't tested though.

I have my doubts the shoes listed here will stand up on wet courts:

I play exclusively in adidas, so can't comment on the whole list, but I can vouch for the grip of the Barricades in wet conditions. Depending on your size, you might score a pair with a nice Black Friday price. Several colorways (without full size runs available) are marked down.

Just shooting out more ideas:

Maybe try shoes with tire brand blended rubber soles such as Michelin, Dunlop, and/or Good Year?
Btw when you purchase from tennis warehouse in america does the sales tax change depending which state you are in?

In europe the price already includes the tax so there aren't any surprises at the end at checkout
