Best to never reach Grand Slam Final

Gotta be Henman. Not only a semifinalist at each of the three most significant slams, but also a frequent loser in those semis to really, genuinely great players. Poor guy just couldn't catch a break.

Did somebody seriously say Haas? Zero time Wimbledon, US Open, or French Open semifinalist Tommy Haas? Oy.

Tommy made second highest ranked player and he still was not even in his prime tennis years. He could have easily been another Federer-like player on tour with a bit more luck. Henman only managed fourth and had all his prime tennis years undisturbed by any major incidents. Federer-Haas probably would have been more an Agassi-Sampras rivarly between them though. Tennis fans were cheated on the whole deal. Seem to be a lot of ignorant fans/and or British people posting here. It's sad to see bigotry get in the way of tennis.

Andres Guazzelli said that he saw a doubles exhibition recently between Gaudio/Nalbandian & Clerc/Vilas played with woodies & that Clerc was the best player on the court.
Yup. Moose, you have some memory, man ;) Congratulations!
I think it was end of 2004, or end of 2005 (man, I'm becoming senile), and Clerc-Vilas played against Gaudio-Nalbandian, on carpet, first with woodies, then with modern racquets. The oldies crushed the heck out of the youngsters with the woodies. At 5-0, the kids got THEIR racquets, and won the set 7-5 :p ... and yeah, Clerc was the best of the gang. His serve, even with the woodie, was impressive... Way better than David's or Gaston's, even with their Yonex and Wilson.

Clerc still has some shots because he's pretty tennis active. I think he has an academy in Miami ;)

And as a side note, Nick Bollettieri(however the hell you spell it) once called Tommy "probably the most talented tennis player I ever worked with." The enormity of that statement might not quite bite into your mind until you realize how many tennis greats that atually is.

Zuras, even mentioning Haas in the same breath as Federer has to be one of the most stupid comments I've ever heard. For a self proclaimed expert on just about every topic under the sun, you sure sound silly. It's one thing when folks compare Safin to Fed cause at least he's proved himself when the mood hit him. Haas however has never done squat to deserve to even be part of the conversation.

We have no idea what would have happened. Haas, if he followed most other tennis greats of this era, was just about to enter his prime tennis years. As said, he had a winning record versus every good tennis player active at the same time, from the old guard in Sampras/Agassi to the newer generation Federer/Safin/you name it. How many people have that before they even get into their peak tennis years? Not Federer, that's for sure. The point is, it could have been a great rivalry on the the hard courts/grass, with awesome tennis being played, instead of semi-boring domination.

It's definitely Tim Henman. 4 Wimbledon semis, 1 US Open semi, 1 Roland Garros Semi. Nobody else achieved that many GS semis without a final. And as someone pointed out, in 2001, that is as close as it gets.

I think so too. Though Grosjean deserves a mention as well. 2 Wimbledon semis, 1 semi each at Roland Garros and the Australian Open. However, I think Henman is quite far from being the best player not to win a Slam. After all, he's only just won one Masters event.

Haas plays Federer as tough as anyone these days. He does have great talent, but his mind is a B or a C, compared to a champion. Great physical tools though.

Of the older guys, Segura was unlucky not play majors for most of his career. Other pretty good players were Marty Riessen, Woitek Fibak, Tom Gorman, Ram Krishnan, and Bob Lutz.
