Agassi had a top 5 forehand and was better in that department than Sampras imo. In terms of fh + movement package that's where Sampras overtook Agassi.

agassi also had a better serve.....in terms of serve + height + shoulder + muscle, i think that's where sampras overtook agassi.....

Well look, it’s close. However, if you look at the MASSIVE differences in their backhands (one a world class, probably top 2 of all time shot; the other, a weak hacker’s shot lacking control, power, or depth, probably not even in top 100 of all time)

Then it’s got to be Federer who has the better FH. Andre’s might be better in absolute terms but Roger had to rely on his so much more, knowing that he would lose the point if his opponent hit to his BH so he had to go for more off the FH wing.

That’s harsh. I’d put Federer firmly in the lower end of the top 100. Looking at my excel data sheets, I have him #83 all time in backhands, right behind Fognini.

Well either way, it’s clearly a situation like Berrettini or Steve Johnson, where the BH is so crap and shank prone, that the FH must be amazing for Fed to be such a successful player and ranked #1 for so long.

Too harsh.

Berr and Johnson have NCAA level backhands. Not even close to being on the all time radar.

Fed’s is firmly in the top 100 of ALL TIME. Right behind Fognini who has a good attacking backhand, albeit very error prone.

But what about 2017 Australian Open final!

(I heard somewhere that that was the first encounter between Federer and Nadal where Federer hitting a backhand had a statistically overall positive impact towards winning any given point, but the stat may have only taken the Grand Slam encounters into account.)

I've always found Federer's forehand very boring, so Agassi's by a country mile :happydevil:

I don't even understand what you mean by "boring". You don't like a forehand that can hit with any amount of spin into any part of the court from anywhere on the court?

I can only go by what I see, its a boring forehand, never worth watching. I change the channel routinely on Federer. Whereas Agassi had me glued to the screen, even when it wasn't a close match :happydevil:
