Breaking Down Indian Well's

Fed's Quarter.

Key Players- Fed, Murray, Roddick.

Draw Summary- Fed has a cakewalk to the quarters. Let's leave it there. Murray has a tough draw. His draw consists of unpredictable people such as Safin and Karlovic with Roddick looming in the 4th round. Roddick has a potential match against Haas and then Verdasco. Haas has given Roddick trouble before so that match should be interesting and Verdasco has never beaten Roddick.

Match of the quarter- Roddick vs. Federer(That will take care of a lot of the Fed vs. Roddick threads.)

I think Fed should come out of this quarter.

Nadal's quarter

Key Players- Nadal, Young, Gasquet, Blake, Tsonga, Lopez

Draw Summary- Nadal has many opponents in his section capable of beating him as listed above.(Young doesn't count). Gasquet should be able to make the quarters and Tsonga would have a good chance of beating Nadal. Dubai finalist Lopez should win a round and Young should be able to set up a 2nd Round match with Nadal.

Match of the Quarter- Gasquet vs. Tsonga

I think Gasquet should come out of this quarter.

Djokovic's Quarter

Key Players- Djokovic, Canas, Ferrer, Berdych

Draw Summary- Djokovic has a good chance of facing Canas this year. Kohlshreiber is also featured in this draw but Djokovic should be able to set up a quarterfinal with Ferrer as a repeat of this year's Aussie open. Tomas Berdych is also in this quarter and could give Ferrer a lot of trouble.

Match of the Quarter- Ferrer vs. Berdych

I think Djokovic will come out of this quarter.

Davydenko's Quarter

Key Players- Davydenko, Hewitt, Youzhny, Nalbandian

Draw Summary- Difficult draw for Davydenko. He should get past Hewitt but I've got a feeling that Youzhny will appear in the quarters. On the other side Nalbandian's main threats will be Ferrero and Gonzalez, if he is on fire. Nalbandian should make the quarters but I feel that Youzhny to make the semi's as a dark horse.

Match of the Quarter- Hewitt vs. Davydenko

I think Youzhny will win this quarter.

I think Nadal will win his quarter and eventually the tournament. I think he can handle Gasquet on any surface and should advance past the quarters.

Challenger

Semi-Pro
Even though Nadal faces a rough draw, I still can't put him down as an early loss. He won it all last year, and the hardcourts at IW are deceivingly slow.

Picking Federer vs Djokovic does seem like the easy pick, but for the first time in what feels like a very long time, I honestly can't comfortably pick a winner that involves Fed in the tournament. His recent shakiness has been the crux of that feeling, I suppose.

I'm personally rooting for Tsonga, Ancic, and Murray, but with my luck, that's probably a big ol' jinx on 'em.

Verdasco's beaten Roddick twice, and they weren't both on clay, one was in Miami.

After all the upsets in so many resent matches, I really feel uncomfortable picking a winner. Somehow all the reliable choices don't seem to work.

How is this going to take care of Roddick Vs Federer debate? So Roddick somehow wins, now he is 2 and 15 against Federer. It's almost laughable.

dude lets take one round at the time, i disagree with about 95% of what you said.
first of all, i will be surprised if either safin or haas will make it pass first round, on the slower courts i dont think karlovic is going far, verdasco is too inconsistent to predict him going far in the strong field of PLO.
donald young has not proven anything and should stop being given WC, Tsonga has not done anything since AO, why do you think is going to be different now, gasquet can go places if he gets hot, so I agree with you there, lopez will probably take a break after big performance at Dubai, but I love his game and hope he will show up, blake should do ok but his best year was 2006 and it is time to start fading him.

i do like all your picks in Djokovic quarters.

i dont see neither hewitt or youzhny going anywhere, hewitt is done guys as well as safin. youzhny has not shown anythhing this year, and i dont see him starting on the slower PLO courts.

my couple upsets picks of today:
reynolds over young
odesnik over kunitsyn

Donald Young is the youngest player in the top 100 and is ranked 85 in the world, what's with the damn hate?, the kid is still learning his trade and done very well at Memphis, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he beats the inconsistent Lopez, and as for Tsonga, you claim he "hasn't done anything since AO", but the man HAS ONLY PLAYED IN THE DAVIS CUP SINCE THEN, that doesn't make him a bad player overnight, it's not like he's been losing matches and is off form he's just had a break and i'm confident he'll be back to his best at Indian Wells and he has as good a chance as any of winning the thing, especially if he bumps into Nadal again!! :D.

for me tennis is purley a betting venture, i dont hate any of the players, i try to break down the games and find weakneses in the lines that house puts out, and i dont really care if tsonga does well or not, i am just saying based on his recent performances i will probably be betting against him if the line on him is satisfactory, for me it is hoby/business, and when Mr. $$$ is involved there are no emotions! and for Donald Young I just feel that reynolds with two matches behind him has a good chance against DC, I might be wrong on this one, but I only need to be correct close to 57% of the time to make money based on the formula I am using.

I wouldn't give that last quarter to Gasquet. If Tsonga is playing well enough to beat Nadal, then I don't think his compatriot will be able to stop him.

CGMemphis

I am just ticked that Darcis pulled out of Indian Wells. He won here in Memphis and was on a roll. He could have done some damage in IW.

The assumption of Federer vs Roddick on one hand is solid, but not something I would put money on.

There are some dream matches there for sure, but not riding Safin as far as your draws go either.

Yeah I don't know what that's one guy's talking about. Youzhny hasn't done anything this year? He made the quarters at AO and beat Davydenko there in straight sets...

Youzhny clobbered Nadal for a title this year and played well at AO until he hit Tsonga.
Aussie Open is faster and lower bouncing than Indian Wells. Indian Wells is probably the highest bouncing of all the hard courts. Miami is slow but the conditions don't allow for high bounces. Of course Indian Wells could play like Miami at night as it is a drastic weather change from day and night in the desert of Indian Wells. We'll see what happens and when the matches are played. Hopefully mostly day matches for Nadal. :)

I believe IW surface is also Plexicushion/Plexipave like AO.
IW surface texture is very coarse, that's for sure.

There is no "hate" in this post. ezdude1970 was just expressing his opinion, and in a neutral way. Save the word "hate" for when it is appropriate. Too strong here.

Is there no love for James Blake? :( I'm hoping he takes on Nadal in the quarters. That'd be a cool match.

Hewitt seems to have an okaaaay...draw. He has a good record over Davydenko, I think. And if Hewitt were to meet Nalbandian in the quarters... wouldn't that be somethin'?
