We’ve had a tremendous finish to the 2011 WTA season, probably the best finish for a number of years. Petra Kvitova won the BNP Paribas WTA Championships for the first time, and in emphatic style winning all of her matches. The championships took place in Istanbul for the first of a 3 year contract and the atmosphere was great with record breaking attendences, which really inspired the players to put on a good show for the crowds.

WTA can learn a few things from ATP. ATP Tour's schedule is just fine they get enough breaks.

Well written article in terms of how it flows and reads.
The ATP is doing well business wise, all the recent tournaments - Basel, Paris Bercy - have been well attended and I read that the unfortunately named WTF has record attendance. I can understand from the player perspective they have injuries to worry about. I also often read various articles by writers such as on sports illustrated, tennis dot com etc where they have talked about too much tennis.
However, as a fan, I am firmly in the 'can't get enough tennis' camp, so my view could be biased. I had a thread with more details (http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=397729), but to summarize, there's a lot of downtime during the season itself if you include optional tournaments. - both Fed and Djoker didn't play for more than 1.5 months after US open. And what long for the top 20 is probably actually good for the rest of ATP.

Thanks for the reply. I just wonder though if mens tennis can do a with a two month off season, it's great that top players can take scheduled breaks but mens tennis has become like cricket and golf, it seems to be non stop travelling and touring. I really like the fact that the women finish end October and the players can have a really good break and then still have time to do proper pre season training. Plus the fans can take time out as well and get ready for end December when the tour starts again.

Talking about injuries, I will be going to the 02 on Friday but now I have no idea who I will be watching, Murray's already out and let's see how Djokovic gets on tomorrow.
