O wow! Yea, i went this AM to check it out and saw lots of local young talent out there...the youngest one i noticed was Alyssa Smith (8th/9th grader) with a solid backhand. She lost 4 and 0 to April Bisharat.

Also watched Cierra GAYTAN-LEACH (USA, Corona del Mar) lose to Shikha UBEROI (IND) and two young Americans: Asia Muhammed and Sarah Lee play...

Of the guys, i only got a chance to sit down and watch Lester COOK (USA) vs David GUEZ (FRA), and Andis JUSKA (LAT) vs Ryler DEHEART (USA)

Great stuff guys. No crowds, lots of new fresh faces, great great cool weather along the coast and its FREEEE!

My son has the privilege of training with Shikha. She's very talented, hits the ball more like a guy - heavy spinning ball. He gets to hit with her a couple times a week when she's not touring. She was as high as 122 on the WTA tour before injuries and asthma sidelined her. She's trying to make a comeback.

On top of that, she's a genuinely nice person.

O yea...i can totally see that now. She says thanx to all the ball kids, she was polite when addressing the other player, and yees, it appears, at least when compared to her opponent, that she hits with more spin. Too bad about her injuries.

This is why these lil tournaments are great, you get to see players you don't see on TV and you get to hear stories like the one you just told me! Thnx for sharing! How is your son doing tennis wise?

a buddy of mine who i play with played the qualifying, Campbell Johnson. He got to the finals of a wildcard tourny to get into the qualies but lost. Its a solid tourny. Wish i could go up and see it

Donald YOUNG Goes down and Goes down Hard in the 1st round again. SoCal boy, Jason Jung goes down in the qualies......NICE try Jason, hang in there, your game will improve.

Alex Clayton would have won this tournament if he played but too busy with school work after the NCAA.....That is OK Alex, plenty of challengers to be WON in the summer time....

you missed it Fedace;this guy uses the 2 handle racket...

SoCal10s,

What is the deal with that 2X handle racket? Have you seen how he plays with it (more like, why)?

Have a good one and take care-

their thought is, this is the racket of the future "2 is better then 1"

they believe that if you can adjust hitting with 2 hands off both sides is the way to go ,if you introduce to a child at a young age this could be good but to give it to someone in their mid teens (muscle memory) its probably to late .

wow i have never seen that before.. that's gotta be really weird hitting a forehand or serve then if we were to try coz the angle of the head would be so off.. i dunno, that just doesn't look right to me
