Cleaning a Stringing Machine

Congrats on your purchase! You will not regret it. BTW, did you get single-action or double-action clamps?
This is what I do for my single-action clamp MS200TT:
I clean the round glide bar using window cleaner (w/ Ammonia) and an old cotton sock. I use an old toothbrush with non-acetone nail polish remover to clean the clamp teeth and string gripper surfaces. Some people use shoe strings dipped in the non-acetone nail polish remover to ease the cleaning of the clamps.
In addition to cleaning, I use a little bit of petroleum jelly on the shafts that hold the clamps and the grooved glide bars. Do NOT get any of the petroleum jelly on the round glide bars!
Since I am kinda picky, I go overkill on cleaning... I clean before every stringing job. I grease it up after 5 or 6 stringing jobs. I understand, one should clean the machine after 10 stringing jobs or so.
Your machine will come with a manual which tells you how to maintain the machine. It's not that big of a deal, and doing these small tasks will help keep our MS200TT in tip top shape.

Isopropyl alcohol also works well. I use it with a clean, old tooth brush to clean the residue off of the clamp teeth. I also use it to clean the glide rails on my Alpha Apex and the string gripper on my Wise tension head. I use silicone based lube very sparingly and only on moving parts that don't touch the strings. I use lint free cotton cloth to dry off the parts I've cleaned or lubed.

likewise... I strictly use isopropyl alchohol for about all of my cleaning... rails...clamps...tension head... body of unit... everything. I just use a really soft cloth.. and a shoestring for the tension head and clamps.. (a shoestring that wont fray in the clamps...soaked in rubbing alcohol)
I rarely lube the machine... maybe quarterly.
Too much lube collects garbage.. and too much lube ends up getting on your hands while you're stringing.

Hi, it might be my newness so to speak to stringing. But what good does cleaning the clamps do?
Holds string better? There is a fine balance between the clamps gripping and being too tight right?
Should you be able to feel any marks (no matter how negligible) on the string from the clamps? Surely you will have some superficial ones each time + they will just reshape to an extent?

Adas, the string used on tennis, badminton, squash and racquetball racquets have coatings on them. Some of this coating wears off on the clamp teeth each time they are tightened on the string. Over time this builds up on the teeth and effects their ability to hold the string in place with the normal amount of force on them. Clean clamps can hold the string with the minimum amount of pressure. Overly tightened clamps will leave marks and can actually damage the string. Properly adjusted and cleaned clamps leave little to no marks on the strings except on the very soft strings.
