Contacts or not when playing?

I started wearing contact lenses a few months ago. My distance vision is good, but my close visions is bad. The contacts add just enough magnification that I can read, but this makes my distance vision a little blurry. It's a compromise, but I'm happy with the results.

I now wear the contacts when I play, except at night because in lower lights my distance vision is blurrier and I have trouble pickup up serves. Recently I had a situation where I was playing at night without contacts and I just plain whiffed 4 volleys. All of them were pretty straightforward (but the ball coming at me was hit hard) and I was kinda shocked to be honest. I"m now wondering if switching between contacts and uncorrected vision is creating a problem for me.

Any thoughts?

I'm nearsighted, so I wear contacts or glasses so I can see at distance, and it helps my tennis tremendously. You, however, have the opposite problem. I would think that if you are mildly farsighted, you should be ok with no contacts.

I always wear contacts when I play. The few times I've worn glasses (regular and also sunglasses) I lost my depth perception and did not like it at all. I am nearsighted, though, so your situation is a little different. In the end, I guess just play with whichever one you like more and think is the lesser of two evils.

Good info guys. I'm mostly wondering whether switching back between contacts and no contacts is causing issues.

Never a good idea to introduce MORE variables to you game.
My game has too many variables, and adding another one to the equation is akin to suicide.

Yes, I would say it is causing problems. Eye strain to be more exact. Your eyes adjusting over and over just for good vision is one thing. But then wearing contacts off and on puts strain on them too with drops, and the cleaning solution. Plus poking and sticking your finger in your eyes.

You should definitely stick to one thing when you play, or at least get a glasses prescription too.

I switch back and forth between contacts and glasses. My glasses are old, contact prescription new. I can play a lot better with contacts, but im USED to playing with glasses. Where and when I focus is more based on memory than just sight. You get used to trying to look for certain visual cues, but with changing vision, those cues will change too.

I believe you can't get used to focusing, and switching all the time will make it harder.

I used to never step out onto a court without contacts. Now, if the sun is out and the weather is warm or hot, I will not wear contacts. I can see fine in broad daylight without them, and if I begin to sweat a lot, my vision blurs like crazy during points if sweat gets in my eyes. If I am playing at night, I have to wear contacts or my vision will be blurry. Indoors, depending on the lighting I may or may not have to wear my contacts. Sometimes, after hitting for a bit, the blurriness will go away. In general, I try not to wear contacts indoors if I don't have to.

PS. If it is windy...I try to avoid contact use as they dry out quickly and become irritating.
