Aside from the fact that it is awful to watch? =P
I took some burst pictures of the serve and it is embarrasing.
I have two flagrant errors:
- I don't bend my knees enough
- I don't lean my body back at all
My toss is also problematic since I tend to throw the ball quite low because I feel that if I throw it too high, I might loose precision on the ball placement. I'm currently working on it and every time I remember to throw the ball up high, I can serve a powerful, but flat, ball into the service court. Sometimes it is even good enough for an ace. I guess the fact that I'm sort of tall helps.
My first serve is flat and fast. The second one needs to be worked on, but so far I have a so-so top spin serve. If I hit it just right, it will be weak enough for it to drop right after the net and force the opponent to rush to the net and lose his balance.
I do have problems with double faults sometimes. If I lose my confidence, I'm in serious serve trouble.
Either way, I've been reading a lot lately and I feel a lot more confident with my forehand and two-handed backhand. My coach told me today that he saw me a lot better than last week. I started to play a match with this 15 year old kid who's been hitting for the past 7 years and is very good and in excellent shape and I was up 2-0, including two aces, when we had to stop because the class time was over.
I guess I just needed to see myself playing to realize a lot of the mistakes I was making.
