DESIGN—10/10
My favorite part of the design would definitely have to be the paintjob of the racquet. In my opinion the paintjob looks tremendous! The colors blend in perfectly (candy apple red, silver, black, and white). The paintjob that Dunlop created for the M-Fil series racquet is very unique, you will hardly find a racquet with a similar paintjob. Right on top of the grip you will see the Dunlop logo painted in white with black lining, to the right of the logo on the frame there will be the M-Fil logo, and to the left of the Dunlop logo you will see a Three Hundred logo. All around the frame you will see the Dunlop name and logo, so you can show it off to all your friends.
At the 6 o’clock position of the frame you will find all the specifications of the racquet, including its string tension, stiffness, head size, and balance. They also have string which I really don’t know why they put that on there since you will most likely change the string, the string they have labeled is M-Fil Tour. At the 3 and 9 o’clock position of the frame you will notice black, grey, and red weaves. Those weaves represent the M-Fil construction that makes up this racquet, it also makes the racquet look better in my opinion. At the 1 o’clock position you will see a white Dunlop name with a black border, at the 11 o’clock position there will be another Dunlop sign, instead it is the logo that is white with a black border and a red stripe to border it off.
The most important part of the is the material of the M-Fil 300. I have been talking about the paintjob and design but, that isn’t the important thing. Now we get into the important part of the racquet. The M-Fil in the M-Fil 300 is what makes it unique to others racquets. M-Fil means Multifilament, the multifilament construction increases stiffness at the 3 and 9 o’clock position, that’s why you see the black, grey, and red weaves at the 3 and 9 o’clock position of the head. Those refer to the multifilament construction. The multifilament construction is also made to increase the sweetspot of the string bed and is supposed to stabilize your off-center hits.
With the M-Fil 300’s 98sq. inch headsize it will increase your chance in hitting the sweetspot and will create a great mix of power and control. My experience with the 98sq. in. headsize has been nothing more than tremendous! I have been getting great hits off the center of the string bed. The headsize has also contributed in my ability to hit with more control and more feel. Before I used a 98sq. in. headsize I was using a 110” oversized racquet, which was way to powerful and gave me no control. With the M-Fil 300 and it’s smaller headsize I was able to get clearer and crisper hits on the center, without sacrificing much power but adding a lot of control, which is very important to keep the ball in the court.
Overall I loved the design and paintjob of the Dunlop M-Fil 300.
GROUNDSTROKES—(You will have to rate yourself)
I found the groundstroke’s on this racquet to be pretty promising. It offers a fair amount of spin and the lightweight is able to give you a faster swing at the ball, which than generated more power. The power on this racquet is mediocre, it doesn’t give you a lot of access to power but, to create more power you would need to create it yourself. I found that the M-Fil 300 gave me a lot of control when strung up with Babolat Pro Hurricane 17 strings. When hitting with the racquet, right away I could tell that the racquet was very good for volleyers and hard swingers. In my opinion I thought the M-Fil 300 felt too light for me, once I added lead tape I felt a big difference, both in the weight and how I was playing. I played so much better and was able to attack the ball with ease; I was also able to hit the ball with more power than before, which was a big plus!
One thing that took a bit of getting used to was finding the sweetspot of the racquet. As you all know the sweetspot is in the center but, I was experimenting on how big the sweetspot was by hitting the ball all around the string bed. I found that the M-Fil 300 does not have a huge sweetspot but, after a few hours of hitting balls it was very easy to hit balls on the sweetspot. I found this racquet to be more control oriented instead of a power oriented racquet. I do not hit with a lot of topspin but when needed the M-Fil 300 will give you a fair amount of topspin to get the ball over the net. With the weight of the racquet being light you are able to get to almost any ball on the court. To some people the handle could be a bit small for the hands and could push you away from a two handed backhand. That was the reason why I started using the one handed backhand.
I found out that with the M-Fil 300 that it is more of a one handed backhand racquet rather than a two handed backhand racquet, that’s probably why you see pro’s such as AMELIE MAURESMO and TOMMY HAAS using a one handed backhand. I get way more control and power when I use the one handed backhand with this racquet compared to the two handed backhand.
Overall the groundstrokes are impressive, you can generate a fair amount of spin and you can also get a great amount of control.
**I did not find this racquet good when stock, I added lead tape to the racquet and it made a huge difference!
VOLLEY—(personal preference)
This would probably have to be my favorite part of the racquet! The ability to volley in the game of tennis is probably one of the most important part of the game, no matter if you’re playing doubles or singles. The M-Fil 300 gives you the ability to volley, with the proper technique and the love to volley this racquet would be perfect! A big contribution is the light weight of the M-Fil 300, the ability to maneuver the racquet and the ability to get the racquet on the ball. Since this racquet is not power oriented you will not have to worry about the ball flying off of the court when volleying, it also gives you the ability to hit balls on an angle so your opponent on the other side of the net wouldn’t be able to get to the ball. When I tested this racquet out once it arrived, one of the first things I went to was volleying. I was able to return big forehands and I was able to place the ball all around the court, with no worries of the ball flying out of the court. Placement is a big key when volleying, I was also able to get a good punch when I volleyed, which was something I was really looking for.
Overall I found volleying great with this racquet! Maneuverability was great, placement great, and angles were excellent. This racquet could be definitely defined as a volley racquet.
SERVES—(personal preference)
Serving with this racquet is great! It gives me a lot more confidence when I get up to the baseline to serve. The M-Fil 300 really gives you a lot more pace on the serve and it improved my slice, topspin, and kick serve. I was also able to get a lot of spin on the spin serve. Even though the M-Fil 300 doesn’t supply you with a lot of power, it does supply you with serve power. I could immediately tell that my serves got more power and more pace when I was hitting them, especially the slice serve. The consistency of the racquet was tremendous, I am able to place the ball all around the service box when serving, which is a big key when serving. One thing that surprised me about this racquet was that no matter how hard I hit it, a lot of time the ball would land inside the service box.
Overall I had no problem with getting power, spin, and placement when serving with the M-Fil 300. It also boosted my confidence going up and serving my first and second serve.
OVERALL—9/10
I really enjoy having the M-Fil 300, it gives me a ton of confidence no matter where I am on the court. Even though the racquet did not feel great in stock form because of it being light, it was easily fixed by adding lead tape to the racquet. I had no problems with groundstrokes, serves, or volleys, I am able to hit every shot nicely and be able to hit it with great placement and pace. The looks of the racquet is very appealing, every time I get on the court at least 1 person would come up to me and ask me what racquet I have and I am proud to say that I own an M-Fil 300!
