Experience with Lightning XX

Hey all, I just installed Lightning XX 16 today (Black ;-) ) in my Volkl Tour 10 mp. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it strung up VERY easily. Very pliable, but not mushy. I did have to use the pathfinder awl though, as it did bend a little much in one of the tieoff holes (wouldn't go through, just bunched up). Other than that one hole, it was absolutely smooth sailing. I prestretch all my strings for about 35 seconds. Unlike syn gut w/duraflex, the Lightning did not continue to stretch out once being tensioned (Dropweight, can easily see bar lowering as string stretches). I wonder if this means the string will play less elastically. My guess is "yes", but I'm still eagre to try it out :). Actual 'play' review will come in a day or two.

I do alot of Lightning XX jobs and it plays alot better than it's low price. It's pretty economical, except it snaps and doesn't fray or really give much warning sign.Good tension holding, good power, but it'll move around on you right before it goes.Good control in a soft, but not mushy package.A winner in my boook.Comprable to TNT,Scorcher,Fiberace in certain aspects, but almost half the price.

I've been playing it in 17 off and on for a couple of months and I really like it. Good spin, good balance of control and power. Nice feel. Comfortable too. It's just a nice all around string and the low price is a bonus for me.

Just strung up my POG OSs with it today (17 gauge). I've had good reviews from my customers and have read some good reviews here, so I'm going to try it.

Well, I've played with it for two days now. I strung it up 2 lbs tighter than normal, because I thought my stringbeds felt kinda loose to the touch, (however, I liked how they played...so I'm really kicking myself for stringing it higher). The stringbed feels much more stiff than before, but I'm going to say that's on account of the increase in tension (it feels much tighter to the touch as well). The string does have decent power, and decent comfort. I believe it'd play more to my liking at my previous tension. I was playing matches both times I used it, so I didn't get to really concentrate on pure feel of the shots, but so far, it isn't jarring or anything...feels similar, or a tad bit softer than PDF.

After a few more practices and matches with Lightning I'd have to say it's a pretty good string. I'm getting pretty good bite on the ball, I think more than with PDF. The string does seem a tad bit more comfortable than PDF as well. Tension has dropped a little since I strung it, but that's kinda good, because I strung it up a little too tight. Also, I leave my racquets in the car, cuz I'm a lazy slob, and we've had a couple nice days, where the car has probably gotten up to about 85 or so and that might have accelerated tension loss (although it seems to have stabilized, and it's still plenty tight) I don't think the bag gets quite that warm though, as I have the separate raquet bags within my large 6pack bag, then I put a towel over it, and keep it in the shade in the car.
