Fantasy match 7: Willis vs Hingis

Willis is a pre Evert.She was the perfect tactician, extremely solid at the backcourt and had a winner atittude that made her unbeatable during the 30´s.Only a good Lenglen had a chance against her.Her records, specially at Wimbledon speak for her.

On the other side, Hingis was the last true shotmaker we have seen on tennis, and only her swiss male counterpart can really challenge that definition over the last 15 years.

Martina was so clever and technically great that Helen should play her best tennis to prevail.I´d like to see this mind boogling battle on hard or clay.

Of course Martina is one of my fab 4 girls but I wouldn´t be so sure she would survive if she didn´t wear a 1997-98 suit.

I'm going to be controversial and say Hingis. At her best she was too much of a genius for even a baseline metronome like Wills to handle......peak Hingis vs. Wills would have been like Lenglen vs. Wills, with the former's innate shotmaking talent prevailing in a close match against the extreme consistency of the latter.

Well, we wouldn´t really know because we haven´t seen Wills live enough.AAMOF,not even once.I see the logic in that Martina´s shotmaking ability could make the difference but Helen would be very dangerous for her in case the match was very close.

That would lead us to a Hingis vs Evert confrontation type.The thing is I really don´t know how Willis compares to Evert other than the general knowledge of her style of play and huge consistency.

Martina should try to break Wills rythmics with drop shots and depp down approaches, like she did when at her best...

Hingis had a great competitive fire.if not for that scandal at the 99 FO final, he would have the 4 big titles ( totalling 6 slams) by now in addition to two Toyota Championships, which is the fifth major during her heyday.

Now, she had a lot of variaton on he rgame, she´d have to play a perfect match to beat Wills, but she had more stroke production than the somewhat robotical american 8 the predecessor of the Everts and Austins)
