Federer-Agassi Us Open Final 05

Although those are the highlights, and I realize that not every point was like that...I still miss that Fed. Although I've been saying for the past 2 years, even while he was still winning everything that his backhand wasn't what it use to be.

The level of play wasn't that great for Federer's standards back then. You can hear the commentators saying Federer has another gear he saves for the huge pressure moments.

this is why topspin has ruined the game.

Federer was hitting his forehand a lot flatter back then, which was why he got effortless winners. He also hit on the rise, something he rarely does now.

He's put too much topspin on his ball to make him play like Nadal. This is why in 04-06 Roger was winning slams easy without a dominant serve. Now that he doesn't hit it as flat anymore, he is more reliant on his serve for easy points.

only thing that is scary there is that 35 year old agassi with just a bit more power could have easily won the match

especially at 1 set all, 4-2 and 30-0 for agassi. if aga hadnt played 3 consecutive 5 setters before he definitely wouldnt start playing like different player then - he just lost his power
and one more thing AGA WAS 35, FED 24 - best age for tennis and aga could have signed for gentlemens 35+ us open but instead he played great finals vs player who is by some people here considered as goat

that was a great first 3 sets of tennis in that match....i would've liked to have seen agassi from 1999 vs federer in that match....not saying agassi would've won. i think he would've been a little quicker and not as fatigued from his previous matches.....but i'm sure the rallies would've been something special to watch

Their '04 US Open match was probably as close as we'll get to seeing them both playing against each other at their best. It was a 5 setter and Agassi won more points, but Federer won. His serve was really the difference between them. Off the ground, I'd even give the edge to Agassi.

This ball striking is INSANE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a51u6XrBGUQ&feature=related

The game is slower now than it was then!

I've love to see Roger rediscover his old form. And it's true that his backhand in his prime was a fantastic shot on the quicker surfaces.

Dude he lost 8 matches in a row against Federer, and this is one of the closest he ever came to winning after Federer put it together mentally.

OH YEAH! I am sure that federer breaking back and taking agassi to the bushes in the tiebreak has nothing to do with federer being simply better than agassi. How does someone play so good to get to the tiebreak and just get blown away like that in a minute, the answer is simple, federer picked up his level and took it to agassi. Oh and federer is not only considered GOAT by people here but also by many professionals who know more about tennis than a random internet user like you. Agassi even said that federer is the best he has played and this is coming from the man himself.

Yeah, he was unfortunate enough to meet Federer quite a bit during the meat of Federer's peak. For a few years, Federer was playing tennis better than anyone in history, which prompted all the GOAT talk. Agassi played some great tennis against him and still couldn't break the armor, though he certainly dented it more than guys like Roddick and Hewitt. But now tennis experts are realizing that they may have spoken too soon about Federer. His tennis legacy is still not certain, though clearly he's above Agassi and in a pretty elite group. But he's already probably lost the chance to match Sampras' 6 consecutive year-end #1's. Things are slipping away now.

Federer was definitly in the zone for those few years but even tho im obviously more a Nadal fan, I definitly think everyone is foolish if they write him off right now.

tell me how many top professionals say that
may i name some who say differently?
laver, guga, moya, becker, kafelnikov, mcenroe, medvedev, haas, many more but this should be enough
i might be random internet user but i play competetive tennis and im 100% sure i know about tennis more than most people here including you
federer picked up his level? its easy to "pick up" his level when agassi started making 2 UE per game and why he did that? because of age and few tough 5-setters
federer being better than agassi? yes he is definitely better than 35 year old agassi, we will see federer at age of 35
it seems i will have to upload some matches and show you and after that if you say that fed is the best then you are insane. in few days ull get some matches (all of you)

Thanks for the clip. Its crazy how much better his forehand and backhand were back then. Way more whipping action with the forehand and coming over the backhand. Also you can clearly see how much better his footwork was. If we are gonna see the Fed of old again he has to find the speed, footwork and stamina he had back then. Everyone talks about how the slower courts is what is giving Fed problems but its evident that his footwork is lacking and that will be the key for him to regain his form.
