Federer loses Austrailan open 2008

Safin is gearing up for Austrailan open, but Rafa is on his heals, Nalbandian will not give up without a fight, and Andy Murray will make a nice showing but it is Federer who will be disappointed. He will be the Runners up, but the winner will be one of the First 3 Mentioned. David Ferrer ?I'd root for him.

Federer has lost one of his most key match winning components. Many of the top players do not fear him like they used to and actually believe they have half a chance. Perhaps they have the If Gonzo can get a win, maybe I can too, mentality. In the Aussie open their will be no do overs, it only takes one loss. Get Federer in a five setter and it will be a good one to see.
You obviously don't have a clue what you're talking about!

I used to think that 2008 would be Federer's breakout year for the elusive Grand Slam, but I just don't think he can grab it all this year. I believe he'll definitely take out Pete's record by taking 3 out of 4. I hope I'm wrong and he takes all 4.

Is the OP aware that the surface at the AO has changed? Rebound Ace is gone, the plexipave is a faster surface (I'm guessing somewhere below the USO surface, but we won't know until January).

The surface is called PLEXICUSHION!!!

i still think federer is the top man. i dont see how people are all of a studden making him drop so fast. But if it is not him winning the open. i could see nadal. although, it's not clay it is a slow hard court which still suits his style well

Believe it or not, and I am not really a fan other than I want him to be at his best in Davis Cup for Australia..

But I am tipping Hewitt..

Astonished you all are I know. But I just feel it in my water...

I was just thinking, if Fed wins the Australian, he would have to be the first player in history to win 3 slams 4 years in a row wouldn't he?.. That would have to be better than Borgs 2 of five years yeah?

He has 5 Wimbledon's in a row, and 4 US Opens, this would be 4 Aussies.. Pretty cool achievement in anyones money.. But I am still tipping Hewitt, and I know he will prove me wrong that little bugger..

nadal has a winning record against fed, and nalbandian and fed are tied right now so what you said makes no sense.

You will see the sense of it this year. Let's leave it at that. I would even be willing to put money that Nalbandian, if he meets Fed in a Slam will get.... SLAMMED!

BTW, is it illegal to wager on this forum?

If I didn't think that Gulbis v. Berankis in the final was unusual I would check myself into a crazy house and chain myself to my bed pan.

Somehow I don't see Safin or Korolev in the AO final. I don't know just a hunch, but that doesn't mean I'm not pulling for them........

OK, I am feeling a little bit relieved now, because I was interpreting your earlier objection as you saing that Gulbis and Berankis are your picks for the final. But I also notice now that you are not betting on Safin v. Korolev either. So I guess the only remaining possibilities are Safin v. Gulbis, Safin v. Berankis, Korolev v. Gulbis, or Korolev v. Berankis. Which final line-up is your pick then, and how do you expect the match to play out?

1. Safin is a lost cause.
2. Rafa can't make it past the quarters.
3. Nalbandian and Murray should have good shows but it's likely that one of them will meet Fed in the last 16 and get blown away. The other may make the final, but if Superman was in the final I'd still back Fed.
4. You haven't mentioned Djokovic, does this mean you are dismissing his chances?

(Although I disagree with most of your post I'm with you on Nalbandian and Murray, given my caveat above.)

I did and I was wrong! Wow Straight sets, coool!

I'm laughing because someone is going to get pissed that there's no SPOILER in the thread title and that this thread was not posted in the Match Results forum and then they're going to realize that this thread was created over a month ago.

yeah, and I'm still LOLing about my comments re Nabandian and Murray, although I suppose Tsonga is my get out of jail free card on the former!

It's times like this when I remember why I'm not a gambling man...

I don't think Nadal will be a threat to Federer there, and my not even make it to the Semi's (especially if Nole is in his half).

Nalbandian is unpredictable. He looked great at the end of last season, but who knows which version of him will show up in Melbourne. He could be back to not caring again by then.

I think Federer's biggest threat at the AO will be Nole, with Nalbandian as a darkhorse.

Holy crap, I got something right for once! :?

You were right on points 1 and 4 but wrong on 2 and 3.
