Fischer Vacuum Pro 98

Would REALLY welcome reports on this frame...

In part due to a somewhat complex naming system amongst various Fischer frames from around the 90's, I have experienced A LOT of trouble trying to unearth info on this precise stick (or understand the confusing info that does exist.) Therefore I would greatly appreciate hearing opinions from anyone who ever played with it - and I repeat, it's the Fischer Vacuum Pro 98 I'm talking about...

BTW, I think its cosmetics were deep red (like a PC 600) with gold trim. I think it may also have been the last 'ceramic' model of these type of Fischers. And also, again, I think, the Pro 1 may have then followed it. (Sorry for vagueness or if any of those details are wrong.)

Well then, you Fischer connoisseurs out there... exactly how good was this frame? How did it perform? Positives/Negatives?...

it is a great frame, and I am Fischer fan. not really classic feel comapre to those pro's frames when hit it hard.

first versions were red/grey/gold with exposed carbon weaving in the graphics

later versions were purple/grey/gold also with exposed carbon weave

all were a constant beam and had ceramic fiber + vacuum technic layup

was preceded by the Vacuum Elliptical Pro circa 1993/4

The tapered beam variant was the VT98 Pro - as used by Kafelnikov and was later renamed the Pro #1

All have THE BEST impact feel of any racquet made in last 20 years....but that's just my humble opinion

These were introduced in late '91.

Fabulous rackets all. A more accomplished player really couldn't ask for a better all-round midplus frame than the Vacuum Elliptic or the subsequent earlier versions of Vacuum Pro 98.

They are actually tapered beam frames (same mold), considered nominal "widebody" when introduced, and fairly stiff. Magical ball feel and a fair deal of power and even feel across the entire hitting area. I found that I had to shorten my very long strokes to adjust to the frame.

Good performance racket. Getting harder to find the old Austrian-made Fischers nowadays... Vacuum Elliptics are like hens' teeth. (I still have one from new)

Played with the VT 98 Pro as mentioned by 007. I thought it was a nice hit - very good control, but really, an incredibly muted response. It was a borrowed frame, so I have no idea how sensitive to stringing this one is, but (much like the 03 Tour), I thought it was the strangest sensation to hit the ball and just not have any great sense of hitting it! I thought it a better racquet by far than the Prince, but still, weirded me out with it's mutedness.

How are your PT630's coming along Ross?

Galain, Unfortunately it didn't work out with the PT (though I half have it in mind to maybe give them a go again sometime, albeit with a view to majorly experimenting with strings and probably lead.)

That's what is interesting to me. I was corrected once before as the Vacuum Pro 98 not having a tapered beam, but I knew I had seen them with the PFS label, indicating a tapered beam.

Is the tapering of the VP98 different from the VT98/Pro1?

Broadway, Nice frames there. I specially like your Rad Tours... hmmmmmm... in fact as a recovering racketaholic, I'm suddenly feeling a bit twitchy!...lol!... Anyway. As for frame I've posted about... Well, I'm not 100 per cent sure TBH, but I think the original Fischer VP 98 has the dark red wine cosmetics of the second frame on the far left (1st picture.)

BTW, Nick's comment re the tapered beam width needs to remembered.

The VT Pro 98 later the Vacuum Pro Mid plus was introduced in the US September 1991. The Colour was Blue similar to the Vacuum Pro 90 that Stich was playing at the time. This model was made in Austria, the later Red version was made first in Taiwan & then China.

most Fischer Vacuum Technic frames offer better feel/feedback with a crisp monofilament string instead of a softer multi. They also have a very narrow optimal tension range. VT98 Pro is 55-57 pounds. I've never strayed from it and have never needed to. The vibration damping from the VTechnic is so good that the softness of the multi is bascially overkill.
