Gaucho Gut - Brittle?

Just got a couple sets of the Gaucho Natural Gut strings (natural and red). Planning to have it strung in a couple T-7 racquets next weekend.

I haven't used a lot of natural gut in my life time but compared to the others I've felt this seems a bit on the stiff side.

Are you all sure this is a very good natural gut string?

I wouldn't say that it is a very good natural gut string. It is a budget gut. If you are the type that cut out your strings when they lose tension, this is the way to go. It deepends on what gauge you are using if your are to say it is stiff. it tends to crackle when your arrange the position your freshly strung gut

Then I suppose you haven't tried Titan gut...that's really brittle there. Guacho isn't very brittle imo, then again, I've only tried the 16G natural.

Personally, I felt the tension loss was greater than Titan or Pacific...

You are just feeling the coil memory. Once you stretch them out, they will feel normal. Once they break in, they are very very soft.

my point of view is with gut you get what you pay for. for some people gaucho is fine and works. personally i wouldn't waste my money on it. but if it works for some people then more power to them.

Gaucho Gut...you get what you pay for!!!

I had Gaucho Gut 16g natural gut string put in a Becker Pro at 57 pounds mains and 56 pounds crosses.

The cross string of the Gaucho Gut broke when my professional stringer was stringing the racquet for me. He said it's the first string he's had break in about 6 years. He also said that the string didn't even feel like natural gut and the Babolat Addiction* and Yonex Tour Super 850 both felt about as soft or softer than the Gaucho Gut.

Beware if you're looking to get Babolat Natural Gut quality for $14 a set. We'll see how it plays tomorrow night.

But in the future, for $14 a set, I think that there will be better options...again, it may play incredibly well but.............

I've strung up many (more than 20) sets of Global gut and only had 1 half set break (and it was most likely my fault). The 1 set of Gaucho (blue spiral strung at 50#) that I strung on a Pure Storm... broke in my bag after hitting 1 time.

I'll stick with Global (even though some claim it's the same string).

Hum...I've strung about 5 sets of Gaucho gut so far...none had break on me...then again, I didn't string them above 60lbs as Gaucho recommended...Playability was ok for me. Personally I much prefer Titan's feel...Gaucho certainly felt much better than any syn gut/multi I had tried...

One thing i've noticed about stringing gut over the years is it's very hard to tell much about playability just holding it in my hands, especially before a light pre-stretch. I have found the same with poly, I have some that feel brittle and play on the soft side and I have found some that feel nice and flexy in hand only to end up feeling too dead and harsh. With strings you never know until you hit some balls.

I have found low end natural gut is, many times, stiff out of the package. I was a bit surprised when the Gaucho was not. It was pliable and I have enjoyed playing/teaching with it.
I use 15L at 53 pounds. I wouldn't recommend thin gauges and high tensions with low end natty.

I am sorry, but if your guy thinks Gaucho plays like Addiction or Super 850, he has no clue what he is talking about. Gaucho plays like a natural gut. There is no other feeling like it. I've played VS, Klip, and Pacific as well and they all share that incredible smooth elastic feeling that Gaucho shares. No synthetic can produce it.

I feel like I am much more aware about the breakage problem as I have now strung 3 racquets myself with them (and 2 additional with a pro stringer). As long as you pre-stretch them and take your time, you shouldn't encounter too much problem. I guess it is possible that some people got some really bad batches, but I have had no issues with them so far and I just started stringing on my own. I however, did break a Pacific Classic, so I do know that gut can be very finicky and have to be handled with extra care.

Update...I was looking forward to playing with my Becker Pro as I head for a tennis 3 day weekend at the beach next weekend...unfortunatly I opened my tennis bag to put some new grip on the racquet, yep, you guessed it, the Gaucho Gut had snapped before I had a chance to hit one ball with it.

I think I'll stick with synthetic and not throw away another $14 trying this gut.
