Golden Set Hex Poly review

Hi folks,

Though I string exclusively with HEAD string with my clients I thought I'd test drive this fairly in expensive string especially since HEAD doesn't have a 5 sided offering yet.

Stringing: 8/10

Fairly easy as general poly's go. It has some sort of silicon coating that makes the string slide against each other. Just as long as you unwrap the coil systematically out of the package you should be ok with tangling and knotting. No burn but the hard weaves are a bit tough to pull near the end of the crosses especially if you do ATW with the last cross already in place. String the 16g about 5 lbs less then your multi and the 17g the same.

Playability: 8.5/10
Not bad. It's not quite as hard as lux nor quite as soft as sonic pro. I felt a little more arm comfort from Black Code but in terms of spin production it was literally the same. Brush up and watch that spin really go. Even the balls I hit mid court became unattackable, the ball really made them kick up. Control was good, not as lively as Black code but had good pocketing.

Comfort: 7.5/10
Well this is caveat of all polys. It's not a arm breaker but you'll feel it after 2-3 hours of solid hitting. Definitely not the softest poly but you may be able to string a bit lower them me to get a softer feel. I play with the HEAD speed pro so it's already a pretty stiff frame, I recommend anyone with a stiff frame to string maybe 3-5 lbs softer then a flexy mid.

Durability: 9/10
This is where this string really shines. It doesn't lose tension. Well not like a conventional poly. I can blow through a set of sonic pro in a couple sets. I've had the same set of 17g in one of my frames for 2 weeks now and it's still playable. If you hit hard and want a poly that keeps it's tension this string is for you. Finally. No cutting out the strings every 3 days.

Price: 10/10
Go and check it out for yourself. Goldenset.com I think or just google it. I think a reel of this stuff is 65 bucks.

Hope you found this helpful,

Mike

I'm going to try some more of their strings and I'll let you know. Until RIP CONTROL 17g is da king!

just played with this strung 2nite...I loved it! i was able to swing away which produced good topspin off both sides..and on my slice backhand it felt like I could place the ball anywhere I wanted. I have it strung at 53 lbs on my customized EXO3 Graphite MP. I had previously had my rackets strung with technifibre e-matrix 16..

The golden tennis site says it's comparable to Luxilon BB Alu Power Spin but I haven't really used a full bed of it only in a hybrid with syn gut...With the results I was getting today and it's unbeatable price..I think this is going to be my primary string...

I believe the web site is goldensettennis.com. I purchased the snake bite but have not strung it up yet. Has anyone tried the "Snake Bite"???
