Graduating from the 03 Hybrid Hornet MP

New User
Hi all,
I read these forums but am a lurker, and don't really post much.

As said in the title, I play with an 03 Hybrid Hornet MP. I string it with Wilson NXT 17 Gauge.

I want to play a more all-court style of tennis, and am working on improving my net play.

I also use a 2-handed backhand.

I probably won't get a new racquet right away, but I want to narrow down my choices so I won't end up being totally confused at a racquet shop.

I like tweeners, because I can't really produce tons of power, and I could stand to have some help.

I've picked up the game fairly quickly, and play for HS at the moment.
When my consistency picks up a bit, (hopefully soon), I think I'll start making the jump to tournaments.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance :)

My first impulse is to encourage you to remember not to put all the faith in your game on your gear. No matter what you're using for a racquet, it can't do a thing until you pick it up and handle it well. Sure I'm mastering the obvious, but anywho...

You've got a rather nice racquet right now for sure. I'm a fan of heavier frames myself, but I've noodled with the Hybrid Hornet and I thought it was killer. Great feel and performance in a lighter package.

Despite wanting to be an all-court player, you didn't really note what's lacking in your current racquet or what you'd hope to get with a different one. If it's the power issue, you'll typically get more of it with a heavier frame or a stiffer option, but yours is already rather rigid.

Get back to us with some details about what you want in your racquet that you don't have now. The ultimate solution for you will probably include some demos - finding a good fit with a different racquet is nearly impossible without some test drives.
