Graf's 1995 French Open title - a forgotten moment

Given that Graf won all 6 majors she played in 1995-6, her 95 French Open win is perhaps sometimes overlooked. But going into that tournament she hadn't won a major in over a year, had lost the #1 ranking to Sanchez Vicario and some critics had called her career finished due to her many injuries which affected her in 1994.
Winning that tournament produced one of the most emotional reactions from Steffi, she proved a lot to herself and everyone else. Anyone have memories from it?

all i remember is that it was so anticlimactic. it finished 6-0 in the 3rd. the first 2 sets were competitive, but in the 3rd, graf's forehand kicked up a gear and sanchez-vicario was left stranded. graf took the fight out of sanchez-vicario by playing some of her best tennis.

i don't remember that many people saying graf's career was finished. she was still no.2 at that time and in her comeback tournament (i think it was around march 1995), she beat the new australian open champion mary pierce. the 1995 french open was, however, the first grand slam event where steffi was seeded no.2 behind sanchez-vicario.

it was also around this time that monica seles started publicly toying with the idea of coming back on tour. maybe that was really more the reason why people thought steffi's best days were behind her, because if she couldn't keep sanchez-vicario from passing her in the rankings, then how was she supposed to be able to deal with the eventual comeback of seles? of course, she later proved every doubter wrong.

The semifinal vs Conchita Martinez was the real final that year. Conchita should have won the French that year but played her worst match of the year in the French Open semis vs Graf, then after making a big comeback choked at the end of the 3rd set.

i am pretty sure there are reports called steffi's career finished in 95 beginning.but Steffi killed those reports by winning paris indoors. Where she revenged mary pierce 6-2,6-2 before same crowd. I read many of fans liked that torney than fo grandslam
