Great hope Jaqueline Cristian - how far can she go?

World #83 (Jaqueline Cristian) beat World #8 (Madison Keys), in Charleston (WTA 500), matching power for power, but with better movement and strategy.
In the last 2 sets her serve, ROS and FH were superior.
It was a good match, both having +7 Winners vs UE.

Jacqueline will play the winner between E. Navarro(10) and K. Volynets in round of 16 next.

Players breaking through 25yo is pretty rare.

Though she had a great first set win today (and on serve in 2nd).

Could Cristian be Romania's new savior? :)

I thought Navarro had game, but Cristian matched her stroke for stroke today!

I'd seen Cristian's name from time to time over the past couple of years but never
saw her play until a couple of days ago.

Her game is almost identical to Navarro's. And to my eyes, their talent is just about
identical.
I was surprised to see her height listed at 6', she looks shorter than that.

Her game could grow on me if she keeps winning.
She's got spunk that's for sure. :)

The good level continues, with another Top20 win today against Emma Navarro:

I could only watch the first set (in windy conditions), which Jacqueline won with movement, FH and holding serve with ease.

Even the American comentator, Coco Vandeweghe said that "Navarro started to stay away from that FH"...
And she was referring to Jacqueline's, whom she thought that "had no weapons to hurt Madison Keys"(before yesterday's match) :)

Overall good techinque and strategy, although it's not fair to her american opponents that besides her coach, the Romanian team captain ( Horia Tecau- 3 GS in doubles ) also sits in her box.

I'm sorry to inform you that while Cristian can put tough against tough against almost anybody on tour, she is not consistent. I've seen three matches live from her and even during the matches her level went roller coaster-way. I very much doubt she has now been able to get her shiny power game constantly on. Would love if she really has been able to do so. Don't like Navarro, but she seems much more consistent.

Wikipedia tells that she is 180 cm tall which sounds right (that would be 5'11 in some stone age physical quantities)

Jaqueline has been for many years brilliant poster girl for 'Transylvanian Open' - so Mark haven't you seen any those (and her coming to the matches in Dracul(in)a outfit)? Hence she is often referred as 'Countess' and this is so much in use that I heard last year in Prague tournament shouts like 'Come on Countess!' (And I mean also from other people than myself! )

In top 3 of the pretties faces on WTA tour in my opinion.

She's playing great -- but you can't cite one tournament to overcome the comment that's she's inconsistent.

I like her, I hope she wins more. But she's 83rd in the world.

She's lost to Diana Perry and Storm Hunter in straights in her first (and only) matches in the sunshine double.

She just went 1-1 in a 125.

As I mentioned in my post above I just discovered Cristian literally a few days ago. I had seen her name before but never watched her play.
So that means I don't know anything about her consistency.
In her match against Navarro (who has been on fire lately) she matched her shot for shot, which made for some exciting tennis.

No I never saw her Dracula outfit until yesterday when I looked her up on Wiki and they stated her height at 6' tall.

She was tired today(including the serve % let her down in the last 2 sets ) and besides Kazatkina is a great clay court player and "won with her heart".
Jaqueline did manage to win 6 points in a row in the first set TB from 1-4 down and had her legs heavily tapped.

She played a great match today, at least for almost two sets!

The younger, lighter, faster player (Jacqueline Cristian ) got tired, while Collins was fresh as a daisy.... PED anyone?
