Grip Size Question

Hi,
I'm just wondering whether it is possible to change the grip size of a racket. Is it a case of just taking off the grip and replacing it with a grip of a lower size or is it to do with the actual frame of the racket and the grip size cannot be altered?

d1783, it is relatively easy to increase the grip size on any racquet using either heat shrink sleeves, or grip build up material called "add-on" or with strips of tape or even balsa wood applied length wise to the faces of the handle. An overgrip will give about a 1/2 size increase. Volkl and Head racquets have multi part handles with what are called pallets on them. These are available in different sizes, but the Head versions are hard to find. A good pro shop should be able to do it. It is much harder to reduce the size of a grip. If the handle is make of foam, it can be sanded or shaved to remove some material if it is done very carefully. If it's made of graphite or some composite material it's almost impossible to do it it's not a pallet racquet.

I have to build my racquet's grip size up. i got a used 1/4, and i normally play with 1/2. I was thinking of getting a heat skrink sleeve and building it up to 3/8, which should be comfortable since i use overgrips.

I think using a heat shrink sleeve would be the easiest way, you can search for them at tennis wearhouse, they have 1/2 size build ups and full size build ups. you'll also need a heat gun.

the most overgrips i ever put on my racquet is two, and i haven't lost any feel in the edges, but I would still recommend a heat shrink sleeve.

good luck
