Has anyone actually purchased a custom painted racquet from Wilson? What was the QC like on the frame they received.

I saw just a couple threads with some chatter about paint schemes for the custom WIlson painted frames from 2017, but no one who has actually purchased one has commented on the tolerance/QC they received.
Going to purchase a v7 Blade 16x19 in gloss. Anyone notice a difference in feel between all velvet blade v7 stock form vs custom painted gloss one? I noticed in the RF97 there was a slight difference in feel between the original and black velvet versions.

I don't see why the paint or quality would be any different with a custom order unless you avoid all the options in the standard blade.

If you're not prepared to double down on a racket that is off spec and that has paint that can be peeled off with finishing tape, don't risk it.

You should also check out the threads in which people receive no updates on their custom frames and customer support does not respond.

One of the guys I string for bought an RF 97 in a custom purple/pink for his wife (she already had the black matte one). Looked like you'd expect a racket to look like. Still had good detail, etc.

Thanks for the input. I purchased one blade v7 today in metallic silver and black gloss, as it is the last day for the $50 off trade in. Hopefully shows up in a month.

People were reporting 10 weeks during covid. Let us know how it goes, how the specs come out, and how the quality is.

Mine took eight weeks exactly due to Covid. It's normally 4-6. I play with the all black PS97's nonCV and ordered a custom PS97 CV and it plays like my three all blacks just a bit more muted as expected from the CV. The paint is top notch! As for customer service... just call them. Don't do social media or email, call them they are very helpful.

Is weight close to spec?

Sorry I do not have the ability to properly weigh and balance my racquets but it swings the same. I primarily play with the all black nonCV PS97's and other than the muted feel of the CV custom they play exactly alike.

I wonder if Wilson would do a laver cup paint job for your RF if you missed out on buying the red and blue versions?

I got a custom clash 100 tour with purple and yellow, looked pretty good. Not sure about quality control because atm it is unstrung so I need to string it and then weigh it, but it definitely feels pretty spec, compared to when I’ve ordered other non custom racquets. I could be wrong.

Weigh it before you string it

I had it strung by the Coach at my club right before lockdown, but it had lost tension and I cut it out. And then I bought my first quality stringing machine! Now I’m going to weigh it and then string it with some cheapie strings and then work from there! But I am practicing with some of my old racquets.

AN UPDATE. After 7 weeks I received my gloss black and silver Blade v7 and it is perfect. I think there is slightly more feel in the all gloss vs velvet stock frame. Amazingly the Blade custom quality control was perfect as well, and is exactly 305 grams! So happy with purchase for $209 with trade in. Wilson should make every frame like this, may not buy another Wilson racquet off the shelf since QC is normally not great.

Ordered 2 RF97 custom in nCode style colorway (red body, white 3+9, black grommets, silver branding) on 8/31 using a 25% coupon code and just received on 9/30. Finishing is great and the rackets came with leather base grip (I heard earlier ones came with a perf synthetic?) but both are underspec with a 2g diff: 335g and 337g. I actually don't mind they're under because It just means they're closer to my old 16x18 six-ones I used to play with and aren't going to be 365+ by the time they're strung up. My other 2 RF97 v12 black/black from off the shelf wilson factory earlier this year were around 340g and 338g so at least they're keeping them close together when they ship pairs?

Anyone bought 2 and compared to each other? I want to buy 2 custom blades but scared about the quality control of the rackets from wilson

One time promo code, or something you could share with your good friends here at talktennis? :)

As for the RF97s, I think they've all come with the black leather except for one or two of the Laver Cup paintjobs. May not be 100% accurate on that, but I remember for sure that some of the Laver Cup versions did not come with leather.

Glad you're happy with your customs though.

I’ve gotten 3 pro staffs. The specs are somewhere on this forum. Can’t remember the exact numbers but I know they were all pretty close. Don’t know swing weights though but again they all feel similar.

They did an affiliate program thing through some of their 'influencers' online so it's some of their names (you can find them online but also 2 dudes here): gavin-25 or trizzy-25

I purchased a kitchen scale the other day and my ProStaff Custom was due for a restringing so I stripped it down and it weighed in at one gram under spec at 314g. I made my own balance board and to the best of my rudimentary measurements it was at 8.5 points head light and the specs say it should be 10pts h/l. I added two grams of lead at the base of the handle and it actually moved it to 9.5pts h/l. I'll see if it makes much of a difference. Its still my favorite of my four ProStaff's to hit with! I have an all black nonCV PS97 that weighs in at 316g and 12pts h/l. It's really whippy.
