Hello all!

I have been a lurker for a few months as I have been getting back into tennis after a long layoff. My story is like many who post here: Lettered in HS but haven't played since grad school. Daughter came home from school and said, "I want to play tennis!" I've gotten back into the sport competitively and am subbing in some leagues waiting for a regular spot to open. Turning 40 was rough and I have no cartilage in my shoulder and other issues due to basketball injuries, so it gets tender.

I tried to go the heavy, head light, gut route and got a n6.1 95. Demoed, researched, etc. Upon use, it was just too much for me to play well and serves killed my shoulder, so I sold it to a friend at work who really plays it well.

I was an original Maxply Mac player in HS and my wife and daughter got me a new modern one for my Bday. I love the way it plays, and don't appear to have problems with it. My issue is trying too match it with another. I'm big and have plenty of strength (height is in my username). Serve and volley is all I know. Play a lot more doubles than singles.

I have a $200 store credit at g o l f s m i t h from trading in some no longer used golf clubs from my vast collection. I'd like to use it to fill out my racquet bag, but they don't have the Maxply. They do have the volkl t10 gen2, the pk redondo, and the dunlop mfil200 plus. Can you please give me some comparison to the Maxply? They don't have demos of these here in B'ham. I could also just use the credit for gut string and order more Maxply's from TW. Please give your input, and sorry for the long thread.

If you like the Maxply's you may as well order string from there and just buy another Maxply - they're pretty cheap here.

IMO, couple of things you need to do first before goin back into it full force.

1. Ease yourself into your games slowly. Don't forget that you've laid off for quite a while, and between the age of 25-40, your body would have lost as much as up to 50% of it's muscle mass (if you've led a sedentary lifestyle).

2. By the fact that you've prior injuries, you would want to draw up a strength conditioning regime in tandem with tennis.

3. I would suggest that you start with a midplus 98. The Tour 10 Gen II is a good racquet to start with. Another option from Volkl is the DNX9 which has the right amount of power for your game, and is a good all-court racquet.

Hope this helps.

I'm in good shape with more muscle mass and strength than when I was younger. But I sure do appreciate the advice. I have been exercising the shoulder in the pool, and am a competitive table tennis play as well.

Can you all tell me which of the sticks plays most like the Mcenroe? As I mentioned, I can't demo them, but the Maxply is a known quantity to refer to. I'm not sure about the feel of a tight string pattern or a more flexible beam, but would appreciate those of you who have hit combination of the above mentioned racquets.

Thanks again.
