i now play with the Head Pro Tour 280 (blue one) and bought a used Head Tour Xtra Long (green). it says made in austria

what series is this Tour Xtra Long comparable to? the 280? Radical? Prestige? it looks and almost feels like the 280. i know the 280 is in between the radical and the Prestige.

any atp pros playing with this racket? Head Tour Xtra Long? seems pretty rare and wasn't too popular... ???

Hey, the Head Tour Xtra Long (green) is the racquet that my pro tennis coach uses. I have never used it, but it looks pretty solid.

Well... I think it's more similar to the Pro Tour 280 than it is dissimilar.

I had a Tour Xtra Long that I cut the extra inch off of... and I used it along side a Pro Tour 280 without any problem switching back and forth.
I adjusted the weights and balances on both frames to match up, and it was fine.
The Tour XL is a little stiffer than the 280, but it definitely has a very similar feel. Once the weight and balance is adjusted (and extra inch cut off), it is essentially a slightly stiffer 280.

Both frames are from the same era, having been produced at the same time.
After cutting off the extra inch and adjusting the weight and balance, one should not have a problem switching between the Tour Xtra Long and the 280 - or the Radical Tour (260), for that matter.

It's virtually the same racquet. It's a different color than the PT and a hair longer.

I had three that I played with for a long time. I switched back and forth between the Xtra Longs and PT630's but ended up with the PT's as the XL was a little unwieldy playing doubles. Loved it from the back court though.

I reduced mine down to the hairpin to try to match balances, etc. If it were reduced to 27", it would be lighter and stiffer and more headlight than the PT. Naturally... it has to be or otherwise it the SW would be even higher than it already is (mine were 350+ with IPrestige grommets). It felt somewhere in between the PT and the original Radical Tour MP in stiffness but I never put them on an RDC machine.

The XL is a great racquet. Solid with similar but slightly crisper feel than the PT and a little more pop, but still low powered. It'd be a shame to cut it down. All three, PT630, Xtra Long and original Radical Tour are very similar with slight differences in balance and flex.

I have one of these xtra long tours and I like it but I use long racquets all the time. Mine is a MP and plays well. It is not my favorite long frame but I use it occasionally. I cannot say how it compares to a Radical? Prestige? because I have not used those 2 frames for an extended time to compare.

OK, I just measured them. The head sizes and string patterns of all 3 (Xtra-PT-Radical) are identical.

The beam widths:

HEAD Tour X-tra Long: 21mm
HEAD PT 280: 20mm
HEAD Radical Tour: 21mm

So, it is virtually the same racquet. When cut down to 27" it plays between a PT280 and Radical (like someone stated above).

The Liquidmetal plays nothing like the other two IMO.

The Tour XL has been my frame for the last 6 months or so, and with some customization the frame is a very, very smooth hit.

It is not a PT280 (or the more flexible 630-though I have never played with one of those), but has been a better fit for my game than either the 280 or the 98 TT Radical. I never could get comfortable with the Radical Trisys MP, though I gave it a fair shake.

I trimmed mine down to 27.5, CAPPed, and brought the weight up to about 12.5 ounces. Feels great with even gosen micro 18 at low tension, even better with better softer thin strings.

What is the string patter of the satellite tour and how much does it weigh? i think that was a little over 11 oz and a 16 X 18?

bud- which exact grommets are on the PT 280 and Tour XL? i'd love to replace my grommets with those cap style ones but don't know which ones to get if i can even get them still???

i am going to restring the Tour XL with the exact same strings/tension as the PT 280 and play with them this week. will repost how they compare! from what i've played, they both do feel pretty similar (besides the extra length of course).

it is 18x19... and mine weight 325g unstrung

You mean the Bumblebee... I believe the beam on that Radical is the same width as the LM. I'll check, later. I just took a picture of the first Radical that I could find :mrgreen:

They are LM Prestige mid+ CAPs. They snap right into the frame and fit like a bug in a rug

I hit with the Xtra long today. Surprisingly, it is similar to my Diablo mid. Except that the xtra long is a bit less stiff, a bit more power, with the major differences being the extra length and the less lively string bed, but you can still hit a lot of spin with the xtra long.

Im thinking about demoing the Microgel Prestige mid. How does it compare with the Tour xtra long?

I had 6 of them...great frame. Preferred the Xtra Long without cutting the extra inch and with added weight (mine were 13oz strung). Played beautifully. I gave up on them because I have a one-handed backhand and the extra inch was making it harder to hit on the run. I then cut the extra inch and replicated the PT 280 specs, played very nice too (firmer feel, more power than 280, especially on serves and volleys). Great solid frame if you add weight, plays very nice with soft strings at low tensions (I played with 48-50 pounds).

I just bought 3 of these racquets in mint condition. Two of them were cut down to 27 inches and that's what I wanted.

The specs of the two that were cut down are 340 grams with 10 pt HL. I'm trying to match these specs to my Head Radical 260 MP (Bumblebee). I'm going to cap them with MG or Youtek Prestiege MP grommets which would add 10 grams to the hoop of the racquets.

How many points HL would I end up with?...8 points HL?

Anyone using these? Any feedback would be appreciated.

It is very different from ProTour280, even though they are of the same shape and string pattern. It swings much slower. It is much more head-heavy. Probably has a huge swingweight. It will only work for someone who is young and strong, and has swing mechanics for head-heavy racquets. No whipping or wrist action with this one.

@PistolPete23 if you're specifically looking for an 18x20 extended players racquet I highly recommend Yonex RD Ti 70 MP which you can still find used at decent prices - snatched 2 NOS from Italy thanks to @flyhome (Thanks again mate!) and I am smitten by it's characteristics. Decent static weight (target unstrung spec 320g), headlight, lowish swingweight for an XL (TW states 320 strung). Dunlop Revelation Tour Pro +1.00 was my all time favourite until I got the 70s. That 20mm box beam is fantaastic.
